BAKER CITY — Get ready to celebrate Oktoberfest and support Crossroads Carnegie Art Center with a drive-thru event on Saturday, Oct. 16.

For the second year in a row, Crossroads Carnegie Art Center will hold the annual fall fundraiser as a drive-thru from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Baker County Conference and Event Center, 2600 East St., Baker City. The auction will again be virtual.

“It’s simply not a good idea to gather 250 people together indoors right now,” said Ginger Savage, executive director. “We want to assure that our community, guests, volunteers and staff are safe and still raise the critical operating support we need to keep Crossroads going strong.”

It may not be in person, but Crossroads will provide everything you need to have an at-home celebration, Oktoberfest style, with a tablecloth, napkins and a link to find festive music.

Dinner tickets are $40 per person and available at www.one.bidpal.net/21oktoberfest/welcome. In addition, a growler of beer from Barley Brown’s ($17) or a bottle of wine from Copper Belt ($20-$28, depending on variety) can be pre-purchased to go with dinner. Tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. Oct. 9.

Fun run

New this year is the inaugural Oktoberfest Potato fun run and walk at 7 a.m. Oct. 16. Sponsored by the Baker High School cross-country and track programs and Ward Ranches, this “Field to Fork to Fun” event has participants running or walking through Baker City to grab a potato from Ward Ranches and deliver it to the finish line for donation to the Northeast Oregon Compassion Center. All proceeds from the entry fees will support the track and cross-country programs at BHS.

Entry is $10 for grades six and younger, and $20 for grades seven and older. All ages are welcome. The first 75 participants to register receive a T-shirt, but you can sign up until race time. Register at the ticket website above.

Auction

The virtual auction will go live on the Oktoberfest website on Oct. 1 (same link as the one above to buy dinner tickets). Items will be on display downstairs at Crossroads, 2020 Auburn Ave. The auction closes Sunday, Oct. 17, at 9 p.m. (If you wish to donate to the auction, email ginger@crossroads-arts.org.)

An addition to the auction site is Oktoberfest merchandise you can purchase for pickup on Oct. 16 — including specially engraved beer and wineglasses.
