Tune Tours returns to Baker City

BAKER CITY — Jon Deshler and his “Tune Tours” band returns this weekend for three shows on Saturday.

The group will play Saturday, Sept. 25, at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. They will play a third show at 5 p.m. at Geiser-Pollman Park in Baker City.

Admission is free to all performances.

Deshler is joined by Nate Deshler on piano, Neal Grandstaff on guitar, and bass player Justin Schepige. He describes their sound as “jazzy,” and said the band will play songs across 150 years of American history.

Deshler founded Tune Tours in March 2020 when his music gigs disappeared. He took his music on the road, recording performances for those who were staying home during the pandemic. He played at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, Mount Angel Abbey, on a street in Silverton, and in the Alvord Desert.

Kaleidoscope Your Name at Crossroads class on oct. 21

BAKER CITY — Ginger Rembold teach students how to “Kaleidoscope Your Name” in a class on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 6-8 p.m. Participants will learn an easy process to turn a name (or favorite phrase) into wall art. Bring a regular and fine tip black Sharpie, and a coloring medium such as felt pens, crayons or colored pencils. Cost is $16 for Crossroads members, or $24 nonmembers. Day celebrates famed rodeo horse War Paint

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Round-Up & Happy Canyon Hall of Fame Museum are paying tribute to one of the top animals in rodeo with “War Paint — Horse of the Decades, A Gala Celebration” on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Noted for his incredible bucking style and highly respected by cowboys across the country, War Paint was honored three times as the “Bucking Horse of the Year” by the ProRodeo Cowboy Association. War Paint has been inducted into multiple Rodeo Hall of Fames including the Pendleton Round-Up & Happy Canyon Hall of Fame.

The day of celebration will include free family activities at the Hall of Fame, 1114 SW Court Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will then move to a ticketed gala celebration at the Pendleton Convention Center from 5:30-11 p.m. The evening will include a program highlighting the iconic story of War Paint with early day photos and film footage of War Paint in action and cowboy memories. A buffet dinner followed by guest band Sunday Saloon for music and dancing will cap off the celebration.

Weston library friends set outdoor book sale

WESTON — The Friends of Weston Library (FOWL) will have their annual used book sale outdoors this year.

The event is Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the Weston Public Library, 108 E. Main St. Books and other items are priced at $1 each.

To streamline the process, people are asked to bring small bills, as change is more difficult to manage in the outdoor setting. At 1 p.m., a bag sale will start with all books fitting in a bag costing only $1.

Bingo returns to Wildhorse Resort & Casino

MISSION — For a chance to yell “Bingo!” head to Wildhorse Resort & Casino — the games recently returned for players 18 and older. Check the casino’s website for the current gaming schedule.

In addition, tickets are on sale now for the return of the $40,000 Bingo Special. The special paper-only event is Oct. 23-24 and features 20 games per day. With limited seating, players are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance — they will be sold at the door, if available.

Also, the poker room at Wildhorse recently reopened, offering Omaha and Texas Hold ‘Em Limit or No-Limit. Tournaments take place weekly.

Celebrate Oktoberfest, family-style

LA GRANDE — Tap That Growlers is hosting a family-friendly Oktoberfest party Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Union County Fairgrounds. Oktoberfest apparel is encouraged and there will be activities for all ages, including food, games, drinks, a cornhole tournament, a BBQ contest, pumpkin decorating and a “Fall Into the Holidays” bazaar — plus live music by the Cory Peterson Band, the Wasteland Kings and the EOscenes. Admission is by donation, to help pay for the bands.
