BAKER CITY — The Baker County Public Library is bustling with activities these days — offering both on-site and take-home options.

Maker’s Club “take and make” kits are available twice per month on Wednesdays. These can be picked up at the front circulation desk.
“Storytime in a Bag” is available on the first of the month. These kits include a book, craft and activity.
“There are also suggestions of how to further an at-home storytime, including some videos to look at or another that is good for dancing to,” said Missy Grammon, the library’s youth services specialist.
A new service called “Dial-a-Story” allows patrons to hear a story read aloud by Grammon. To choose a story, dial 541-406-6660.
At the library
Grammon holds storytime every Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the library. On Fridays, she is offering StoryArt at 10 a.m. where children listen to a story and explore an art medium. Her current session is full, but she plans to start another one in January or February.
She’s also offering several opportunities for older children, including:
Young Writers Club, which meets at 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Nov. 30. The focus is writing a story as part of NaNoWriMo — National Novel Writing Month.
Teen Book Club, for grades six to eight, meets at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Tween Book Club, this one for grades three to five, meets at 3 p.m. on Fridays.
Battle of the Books
The Oregon Battle of the Books — also known as OBOB — begins soon. There are three age categories: grades three to five, six to eight, and high school. Those interested in participating can sign up at the library or call 541-523-6419.
3D Printer
Earlier this month the Baker County Public Library unveiled its newest service: two 3D printers. Patrons can submit images to be printed for free. To find designs, either browse the website www.thingiverse.com or create an original piece at www.tinkercad.com.
Flyers that detail the process are available at the library next to the printers, which can be found near the circulation desk. For information, email 3D@bakerlib.org.
