‘All Together Now’ performances are Nov. 12, 13

LA GRANDE — The music and theater departments at Eastern Oregon University are joining to present the musical review “All Together Now.” There will be two public performances: Friday, Nov. 12, and Saturday, Nov. 13, both at 7 p.m. in EOU’s newly renovated McKenzie Theatre. A third show for high school students will begin at noon on Monday, Nov. 15.

The upcoming performance is part of a global effort to celebrate and commemorate the reopening of live theater, and features a medley of hits from classic Broadway musicals like “Rent,” “Hairspray,” and more. Students in the EOU Music Department, Theater Department and Chamber Choir will join a chorus of over 2,500 schools and theaters concurrently performing the production on its premier weekend.

“Basically, it’s celebrating Broadway’s reopening and us coming out of quarantine and starting to be able to move forward with live theater. It’s a great fundraiser for us, plus it’s great to be part of this thing that is so worldwide,” said Theatre Professor Kenn Wheeler, who is directing the show. “Every song kind of matches the theme of, ‘let’s put the bad behind us and start forward on a new day.’”

Tickets for the weekend shows are $15 per seat, or $10 for groups of 10 or more. Admission is free for EOU students. These shows are a fundraiser for the theater and music programs at EOU.

About 300 tickets will be sold for each performance. To purchase in advance, go to www.tix.com/ticket-sales/tix/6521 or call the box office at 541-962-3757. A limited number of tickets may be available at the box office each night of the show.

Submissions sought for ‘Nature in the Abstract’

JOSEPH — The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture will open an exhibit on Jan. 7 titled “Nature in the Abstract.” Artists are invited to submit entries for consideration through Nov. 19. The curators are Ellen Morris Bishop and Debbie Lind. According to the show description, entries must depict a specific natural subject. The artwork may depict a real pattern in nature as it exists (for example, a macro-photo of the variegated colors and patterns of lichen) or may represent the artist’s interpretation of the subject through some form of abstraction (a painting that depicts the patterns of fall foliage as blends of colors, bands, and stripes). In either category, the viewer may not be able to identify the specific object or landscape but is compelled to consider the patterns, forms, and design.

Eligible media are photography, paintings, collage, 3-D, including ceramic, fabric, metal, and wood. There are two adult categories — “Nature in the Abstract” and “Interpretations of Nature — and a youth category for those younger than 18. The entry fee is $15 per piece, or $10 in the youth category. Artists are limited to five entries. For information, visit www.josephy.org.
