Native American Beading

This two-day workshop with Roger Amerman is set for Friday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $150.

Workshop participants will learn the basics of beading with seed beads, sizes 10/o and 11/o, as well as a two-needle process in order to construct a beaded neck bag. This method is referred to as “contour” and “lane” bead stitching. Participants will also examine color use and contrast, bead edging solutions and beading texture strategies. Students will end the workshop with a unique bag that embodies their style and sense of color.

Amerman is an enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, a former Park Ranger with the U.S. National Park Service (Whitman Mission National Historic Site, Walla Walla, Washington), as well as a highly accomplished artist who competes and has been featured throughout the United States.

Intro to Collage

Led by Janis Carper, this workshop covers a variety of collaging techniques and materials on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $45. Participants will work on design, layering, color and transparency. Basic materials are provided, but feel free to bring discarded books, old magazines, photos, greeting cards, scraps of paper, buttons, old jewelry, fabric, etc. Everyone will leave with a finished product. Check out more from Janis at www.second-chanceproductions.com.

Learning Wool Crafts

Janet Hohmann leads this workshop on needle felting and wrapped wool ornaments on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $25. Participants will explore two different techniques using wool to create small figures and ornaments. Needle felting uses specially notched needles to shape wool into any shape. Wrapping wool roving around a pipe cleaner framework is another fun way to create a shape or an animal. Because needle felting involves a very sharp needle, this craft is not recommended for children younger than 12. All materials are provided.

Adding Color to Copper

Learn the basics of adding color to metal through enameling in this class taught by Dona Miller on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $50, and the workshop is limited to six students. Enameling uses finely ground glass, which is fused to the metal using a heat source such as a torch or kiln.

Introduction to Block Printing

This class, set for Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. and led by Heidi Muller, is an introduction to relief printmaking using “softcut linoleum block.” Students will experiment with cutting techniques on scrap block pieces before making and printing a final 6-inch design. The class is limited to six students. Cost is $65.

Bezel Set Copper Earrings

On Saturday, Feb. 22, 2022, from 1-4 p.m., Dona Miller will lead students through designing of the earrings, texturing and finishing the earring blanks, soldering the bezel cups to the earrings and then setting the stones. Make one pair for yourself and one for a friend, or keep them both for yourself. Cost is $65, and the workshop is limited to six students.
