JOHN DAY — The streets of John Day will once again glow with thousands of Christmas lights during the annual Timber Truckers Light Parade on Saturday, Dec. 11.
Illuminated entries can line up from 3-5:30 p.m. at the Iron Triangle. The entry fee is $10, and participants must register — or check in if pre-registered — during this time.
This year’s theme is “Light Up the Night.” The parade starts at 6 p.m. at Patterson Bridge Road. From there, it will go down Main Street to NE Third Street, then end at the Elks Lodge.
Brenda Mosier said parade-watchers line the streets of the route to celebrate this event, which started in 1981.
Although it did originate with logging trucks, Mosier said all sorts of vehicles are welcome. There are four categories: community, independent, timber and commercial.
“You can decorate your own rig and be in the parade,” she said.
Last year the parade drew 31 entries — and helped raise spirits in the community, Mosier said.
“We have a great time,” she said.
To pre-register for the parade, call Mosier at 541-429-0551, Chantal DesJardin at 541-620-1890, Savannah Stout at 541-620-2503 or Leslie Traylor at 541-620-4032.
Also on Saturday
The Grant County Fairgrounds will have holiday events on Dec. 11 as well. A “drive-thru Santa” event is from 4-5:30 p.m., and the community Christmas tree lighting is at 5 p.m. Kids crafts will be provided by the city of John Day.
