UMATILLA — A new skating rink in Umatilla is welcoming guests just in time for the holiday season.
The rink measures 2,900 square feet and can accommodate 50 skaters. Open through February, it is on H Street between the city hall/library and Village Square Park.
Admission on weekends is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four. These prices include a skate rental.
On weekends, the rink is open from 4-8 p.m. Fridays and from noon-8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. It is closed for maintenance from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
It is available to rent during the week at the rate of $150 for two hours. These reservations are available Monday through Thursday between noon and 8 p.m., and from 9-11 a.m. on Saturdays. To reserve at time, go to www.umatilla-city.org/parksrec and click on “Facility Rentals.”
What’s it made of?
The rink is not made of ice — it is a synthetic material made from heat-pressed polymers. This means water and electricity are not required. According to the city, the rink is composed of approximately 144 sheets of synthetic ice, each weighing about 80 pounds. Maintenance is minimal, and the lifespan is estimated at 20 years. After that, the polymer surface is 100% recyclable.
