CANYON CITY — Families are invited to come out for laser tag and kickball nights sponsored by the John Day Canyon City Parks and Recreation Department during Christmas break.

Laser tag nights are set for Dec. 28 and Dec. 30, both from 4-6:30 p.m. at Humbolt Elementary, 329 N. Humbolt St. in Canyon City. The cost is $2.50 per half hour. Space is limited; register for specific time slots online at https://jdccparksandrec.org/winter/.

Kickball happens Dec. 29 from 4-6:30 p.m., also at Humbolt Elementary. The activity is free.

These events are examples of adult programs — and family nights — that are being scheduled by the parks and recreation department for 2022, said Kailey Heiple, program manager.

Another program on the horizon is youth basketball for children in kindergarten through third grade. It begins Jan. 31 and runs for five weeks. Cost is $50 for in-district (John Day and Canyon City) or $65 for out-of-district (elsewhere in Grant County).
