Find programs for all ages at Cook Memorial Library

Cook Memorial Library’s book club for adults is taking a break from mysteries to participate in the 2022 Big Read featuring “The House on Mango Street.”

LA GRANDE — Cook Memorial Library offers a variety of free programs for youth and adults throughout the month. Here’s a look at what’s coming up in February.

Teen Book ClubsBook clubs meet on the first Wednesday of the month in the library’s Community Room. Middle school ages meet 3:30-4:15 p.m., and high schoolers meet 4:30-5:15 p.m. Call Celine Vandervlugt at 541-962-1339 for updates or changes.

Teen iCraftiCraft is held monthly on the second Wednesday at 4 p.m. This free activity, open to anyone in middle or high school, next meets Feb. 9. Supplies are provided and registration is not needed. For craft details, see the activity calendar at www.cookmemoriallibrary.org under the “Teen” tab.

Teen MovieA Teen Movie is shown monthly on the third Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. This free activity is open to anyone in middle or high school. The next one is Feb. 16. See the teen calendar for the title at www.cookmemoriallibrary.org.

StorytimeThe library holds storytime every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Each session includes a song, story and a craft. All ages are welcome.

Kid Craft FridaysEach week features Kid Craft Fridays for ages 7-10, starting at 3 p.m. in the Community Room. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

BingoKids are encouraged to participate in a reading bingo challenge called “Reado.” Cards are available at the front desk. Read and fill in the corresponding squares (such as “read a fiction book” or “read a book in bed”) then return the card to the library to win a prize.

StoryWalkStoryWalk, in collaboration with La Grande Parks and Recreation Department and Public Works, is installed at Riverside Park along the pathway. Each post features a couple pages of a children’s book so you can read as you walk.

DIY Craft KitsStarting Feb. 1, the take-home craft kit for adults for the month — Heart Yarn Garland — will be available at the front desk while supplies last.

Mystery Book ClubThe library’s Mystery Book Club for adults meets on the second Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Community Room. However, this month is a break from mysteries as the club reads “The House on Mango Street” by Sandra Cisneros, which is the 2022 Big Read selection. Copies are available through interlibrary loan and at the library.

Dial-A-StoryCook Memorial Library also offers Dial-A-Story — simply call a phone number and listen to a children’s story read out loud. This service can be accessed 24 hours a day, free of charge, by calling 541-624-6339.
