BAKER CITY — Darlene, Angela and Sue Ellen meet by happenstance on a bus to Nashville, but that chance adventure forms a bond between these three gutsy women looking for fame.
Their stories, intermixed with classic country tunes accompanied by a live band, are the premise of “Honky Tonk Angels,” a musical presented by Eastern Oregon Regional Theatre.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 10-11, and 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the EORT theater, 2101 Main St.
Tickets are $20 adults, $18 members and $12 students. Purchase tickets online at easternoregonregionaltheatre.com, by calling 541-523-9652 or at the door.
The show was written by Ted Swindley and is produced under special arrangement by Stage Rights.
Abby Dennis directs the show, which includes the cast of Marie Taylor, Amy Strommer and Gloria Reid. The live music is provided by Addison Collard, Nick Paulsen, Dylan Francesconi and Mary Black.
The three characters each come from different places: Angela is from Texas, Darlene leaves Mississippi and Sue Ellen is a secretary from Los Angeles.
En route to Nashville, Darlene decides to quietly rehearse “Delta Dawn.” But the other two can’t contain themselves and join in — and the trio realizes how well they harmonize together.
Deciding to join forces, they combine for a show at the Honky Tonk Heaven Club.
In addition to “Delta Dawn,” other familiar hits include “Stand By Your Man,” “9 to 5,” “These Boots Are Made For Walking,” “Amazing Grace,” “Harper Valley PTA” and so many more.
