The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame honors men, women and livestock by inducting new honorees every year. War Paint, pictured here, was inducted in 1969.

PENDLETON — What started with 10 men and five horses has grown into an association that honors exemplary men, women and livestock who embody the rich history and heritage that the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame prides themselves in protecting.

Since its creation in 1969, the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame has inducted new honorees yearly. Each spring, four honorees from the Native American, contestant, volunteer and animal categories are chosen to be inducted.

Voted for by existing Hall of Fame members, the inductees are celebrated at the Round-Up during the inductee banquet and are presented to the arena on the Wednesday of Round-up week. The new Hall of Famers are also given museum display cases that show pictures, memorabilia and other pieces that highlight the honorees’ excellence and contribution to the community.

The 2022 Hall of Fame inductees are:

  • Rusty Black (Early Years category)
  • Bob Forth (Volunteer
  • category)
  • Jerome Robinson (Contract Personnel category)
  • Randy Severe (Special
  • Inductee)

Nominees

To become an inductee, a Hall of Fame member must nominate the individual, and the other members will later vote on each category’s recipient. Those interested in becoming a Hall of Fame member and partaking in this 53-year long tradition can visit pendletonroundup.com to fill out the membership form along with the one-time $100 fee.

Along with the inductee and members display, the Hall of Fame Museum has a variety of exhibits that showcase the century long history of Pendleton. The museum allows visitors to take a step back in time to learn about wagons, firearms and saddles while also appreciating the great beauty of Native American regalia and beadwork.
