The Sumpter Valley Railroad runs on narrow-gauge tracks between McEwen and Sumpter in Baker County.

ELGIN, SUMPTER — As summer winds down into autumn, the Eagle Cap Excursion Train and Sumpter Valley Railroad will offer special trains.

Here’s a look at the special events coming up with each organization.

Eagle Cap Excursion Train

  • Sept. 3: Train robbery by High Country Outlaws; leaves at 10 a.m. from Elgin; $75 adults, $70 seniors and $35 for ages 3-16.
  • Sept. 10 and Sept. 17: Two Rivers excursion, which follows the Grande Ronde River to Rondowa and up the Wallowa River.
  • Sept. 21: Special Alpen Train in conjunction with Oregon’s Alpenfest, which happens in Joseph Sept. 29- Oct. 2. This train will feature Bavarian food, guest hosts in lederhosen and dirndl dresses and live accordion music. Cost is $80 adults, $75 seniors and $40 for ages 3-16.
  • Oct. 1: Bigfoot Train with Squatch America. Leaves Elgin at 10 a.m. and follows the Two Rivers route. Fares are $75 adults, $70 seniors and $35 for ages 3-16.
  • Oct. 15: Fall Foliage Ride, 10 a.m. from Elgin; $75 adults, $70 seniors, $35 ages 3-16.
  • Oct. 8: Two Rivers Bonus Ride; $85 adults, $80 seniors, $40 ages 3-16.
  • Oct. 22: End of Season Bounty train featuring a meal by Ten Depot Street featuring ingredients from local farms, gardens, orchards and ranches. Leaves Elgin at 10 a.m.; $75 adults, $70 seniors, $35 ages 3-16.

Sumpter Valley Railroad

Operating from McEwen Station and Sumpter Station, the SVRR has a full schedule for September, then special fall foliage trains in October. For a detailed schedule and to reserve tickets, visit sumptervalleyrailroad.org.

  • Sept. 3-4: Features short runs from Sumpter in conjunction with the town’s Labor Day weekend flea market. On Saturday, trains leave from Sumpter at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday follows that schedule, plus an earlier ride at 11 a.m. Tickets are $18 adults, $15 military/seniors; $11 ages 3-17.
  • Sept. 3: Wine and Cheese Train sponsored by Copper Belt Winery and The Cheese Fairy. This train, for ages 21 and older, leaves McEwen at 6 p.m. The fare is $60.
  • Sept. 10: Full Moon Train, 7 p.m.; $25 adults and $16 for ages 3-17.
  • Sept. 11: Hot Dog and Marshmallows Train, noon; $28 adults, $25 seniors/military and $17 ages 3-17.
  • Sept. 24-25: Train robberies by the High Country Outlaws; 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days; $25 adults, $22 military/seniors, $16 ages 3-17.
  • Oct. 21-23: Fall Foliage trains; 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon on Sunday; $25 adults, $22 military/seniors, $16 ages 3-17.
  • Dec. 10: Christmas trains; 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6 p.m. Tickets are $18 adults, $15 military/seniors, $11 ages 3-17.
