New art classes coming for fall session

As summer wanes into autumn, art centers across Eastern Oregon are offering a new set of classes and workshops to stretch your creativity.

Crossroads Carnegie Art Center

  • Drop-In Still Life: On Fridays, Sarah Wynn is offering a drop-in workshop from 6-8 p.m. This continues through Oct. 28 (no class Sept. 30 or Oct. 7). This class is for beginner and experienced artists — please bring medium and materials of choice. Register the day before; cost is $16 members, $24 nonmembers per session.
  • Easy Carpenter’s Star: Tracy McKenzie of Essentially Loved Quilts leads this class on Saturday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $40 members, $60 nonmembers, $6 for the pattern.
  • Dreamcatchers: Join Tori Vinson Whiting to make a dreamcatcher on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $16 members, $24 nonmembers,
  • $5 supply fee.
  • Ballet classes with Debbie Friedman begin the last week of September. There are four levels: Ballet I for ages 6-8; Ballet II for ages 7-10; Ballet III for ages 10+; and adult ballet. For class details and cost, visit crossroads-arts.org or call 541-525-5369.

Art Center East

ACE is offering classes for children, teen and adults in various mediums.

“See our class schedule online, pick up a print copy at ACE, or pick up a copy at other locations (such as Cook Memorial Library) throughout the community,” said Sophia Aimone, ACE programs coordinator.

  • Beginning Embroidery: Youth class for ages 12-17 is Friday, Sept. 16, 3-6 p.m.
  • Modern Macrame: For ages 21 and older who have taken the introductory macrame class. Saturday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $50 member, $60 nonmember.
  • Lush Canvas — Fall Flowers: Friday, Sept. 23, 7-10 p.m. Paint autumn flowers in acrylic with Sophia Aimone. Cost is $45 member, $55 nonmember.
  • Wild School: Saturday, Sept. 24, 10-11:30 a.m. Youth ages 5-12 will create nature-based art in a variety of mediums at Pete’s Pond. Cost is free.
  • Macrame and Mimosas: In this two-hour workshop, make a handmade plant hanger. Saturday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $30 member, $35 nonmember.

Painted Sky Center for the Arts

  • Black Light Paint Party: Friday, Sept. 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m. $36 members, $40 nonmembers.
  • Autumn Lanterns: For ages 15 and older; Saturday, Sept. 24, 1-3:30 p.m. Cost is $31 members, $35 nonmembers.
  • Vintage Heart Ornaments in Wool Applique: Saturday, Oct. 1, 1-4 p.m. $22 members, $25 nonmembers.

Pendleton Center for the Arts
