JOSEPH — Bells will be ringing in Joseph as more than 40 local artisans, crafters and businesses prepare for the annual Jingle Thru Joseph Holiday Bazaar.
This year’s bazaar is Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25 and 26, and Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3, at the Joseph Community Center, 102 E. First St. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day.
In its 26th year, customers looking for the unusual, perfect Christmas gift or decoration may find it at the holiday bazaar. Susie Madigan, one of the coordinators for the bazaar, said there are probably 10 to 15 vendors who have come back year after year to the bazaar.
“There are a lot of returnees, and we’re full,” she said.
She added that some will be there only the first weekend, some vendors will be working just the second weekend and that others will be there both weekends.
“A lot of time and dedication has gone into this. All the vendors put in hours and hours. It’s really nice. Come and see what we have to offer. There’s such a variety,” she said.
Among the items attendees can expect include jams and jellies, aprons, wreaths and swags, ornaments, table runners, baked goods, leather and wood craft items, photography and jewelry, pottery and metal art, soap, coffee, clothing and leggings, candles and antiques.
“It’s amazing there are so many arts and crafts people” in the county, said Doneva Bolen, another bazaar coordinator.
Although refreshments will not be available, the All-Coffee coffee truck will be set up outside the community center.
In addition to the variety of vendors, the Wallowa County Humane Society will have a silent auction. Dec. 2 and 3 is also the Humane Society’s annual fundraiser, Santa Paws, when pet owners can bring their pets in for pictures with Santa Claus.
Amy Fairchild, one of the bazaar vendors, will provide music during the event on her keyboard.
Dawn Medley of Medley’s Mustangs will have a few mustangs on site and will answer questions about the adoption process, as well as provide general information about the horses.
Businesses in Joseph will once again open their doors to holiday shoppers for the annual Jingle Thru Joseph event on Saturday, Nov. 26, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Stores will offer specials, and the annual parade starts at 5 p.m.
“Jingle Thru Joseph is a wonderful community event,” said Alicia Garrett, event co-chair. “As I have learned in my crash course in putting it together this year, it really takes the whole community to bring this together.”
Warming barrels will be located around town to help shoppers stave off the cold.
The parade begins with lights and sirens from one of the city’s fire engines led by Fire Chief Jeff Wecks, followed by 2022 Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon, Destiny Wecks, carrying the American Flag and riding her horse bedecked in lights.
Joseph Main Street businesses will also compete in a lighting contest.
Garrett said many community members assisted her in planning Jingle Thru Joseph including Becky Rushton, Outlaw Restaurant, Sydnee Coffee, Studio C Salon, Teresa Sojonia, Embers Brew House and Deena and Karl Mcfeteridge.
