Start Thanksgiving with a Turkey Trot

EASTERN OREGON — Before you sit down to your own holiday meal, consider bundling up for a bit of exercise and giving back to the community, too.

Thanksgiving Day run/walk events are planned in Baker City, Hermiston and Pendleton. Here are the details.

BAKER CITY

The 15th annual Turkey Trot run/walk happens Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 24, in front of Kicks Sports on Main Street. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the event begins at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate. Proceeds from the event support the Northeast Oregon Compassion Center.

Entry is $15 per person. Register online at www.neoregoncompassioncenter.org or find a link on the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/NortheastOregonCompassionCenter. Participants can also register the day of the race from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

Awards will be given for the top overall finishers and teams.

HERMISTON

Hermiston Athletic Club’s second annual Turkey Trot starts at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, at the Oxbow Trailhead located across the street from Good Shepherd Medical Center.

Registration is $25 for adults, $15 for youth ages (7-17) and free for kids 6 years old and younger. All registrants may pick up their race packets at the event.

Partial proceeds from this event go to Fuzzball Animal Rescue and Sweet Potato’s Closet.

PENDLETON

This trot will begin in front of Club 24, 1845 Westgate in Pendleton. The 5K participants will follow the yellow route, while the 10K runners will take the yellow route, then the red route.

The event starts at 9 a.m. Entry is $20 adults, $15 youth. All proceeds will be donated to Made to Thrive, a nonprofit organization serving at-risk youths in Umatilla and Morrow counties.
