BAKER CITY — Here’s a look at new art shows opening Friday, Dec. 2.

Royal Artisan

1912 Main St.

Royal Artisan is hosting painter Jessica Dougherty. Her show opens Friday, 5-8 p.m. with music at 5:30 by D’Club L’Eveque featuring Debbie Friedman, John Woodard and Lindianne Sarno.

“Art has always been a part of my life,” Dougherty said. “I grew up in a coastal artist community where we had art every day in school.”

As a teen, she painted t-shirts on a beach in Mexico and later worked at a photo development store. She has an associate’s in photography and a bachelor’s in anthropology.

Then art took a backseat, until she moved to Baker City and met Tom Novak at Short Term Gallery.

“We talked all about my desire and fears of painting,” she said. “Finally one day he kinda said ‘stop talking and go do!’ I haven’t stopped painting since.”

Churchill Hall Pass Gallery

John Simpkins is the featured artist for December, and his show opens Friday at 5:30 p.m. He will display his large works — measuring 7 feet by 12 feet — and also have smaller-scale reproductions available.
