New classes on the horizon at Crossroads

BAKER CITY — Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, 2020 Auburn Ave., has released a schedule of art classes for December.

In addition to the special classes listed here, Crossroads has ongoing weekly classes including Young Artists Studio, Adult Open Studio, Monday Open Painting and Drawing Studio, Tuesday Open Pottery Studio, and Learn to Love Watercolor and Pastels.

Qi Gong – Holiday Stress Defense

There are two classes — Dec. 5 and Dec. 7 from 9-10 a.m. Sample a variety of gently flowing movements to energize your body and mind and keep that holiday spirit light and bright. No experience necessary. Cost: $16 members, $24 non-members.

Adult Wheel Throwing for Beginners

The winter session of this class begins Dec. 7 and continues Dec. 14 and Dec. 28, 6-8 p.m. Students will be introduced to the fundamental steps for making bowls on the pottery wheel. A second session begins Jan. 4. Cost: $48 members, $72 nonmembers, $25 clay and firing.

Introduction to Wire Wrapping

Wednesday, Dec. 7, 6-8 p.m. Learn the foundations of wire wrapping and make a stone wrapped piece and a key wrapped piece. Cost: $16 members, $24 nonmembers.

Christmas Recycle Workshop

Thursday, Dec. 8, 6-8 p.m. Explore creative ways to use a variety of recycled plastics, metals and woods to create your own unique nativity, Santa or elf. Bring some recyclables to share and a creative mind. Children ages 6-12 must bring a paid adult with them. Cost: $16 members, $24 nonmembers, $35 family of 3 or more, $5 children under 12, $5 supply fee.

Sip N’ Spin Pottery

This over-21 pottery class meets Dec. 8, Dec. 15, Jan. 5 and Jan. 12, 6-8 p.m. In this quick introduction to wheel throwing, the student to have work to be fired by the end of the lesson. Our focus will be more about the process of throwing rather than the end result. Must register by the day before the class. Participants can bring beverages to enjoy. Cost: $30 members, $45 nonmembers, $10 clay and firing fee.

One-Night Still-Life

Friday, Dec. 9, 5:30-7 p.m. Join instructor Sarah Wynn for one night of a lively still-life class. Bring preferred materials/medium and Wynn will bring the still life and good tunes. Cost: $12 members, $18 non-members.

Box Making

Friday, Dec. 9, 6-8 p.m. Learn how to make creative boxes out of old cards or calendars. Cost: $16 members, $24 non-members.

Photography 101

Class meets Dec. 10, Jan. 14 and Feb. 11, 9 a.m.-noon. Learn the fundamentals of photography including camera settings, composition, photography techniques and more. All skill levels are welcome. Camera gear required. Cost: $24 member, $36 nonmembers.

Winter Photography 1, 2 and 3

Dec. 11, Jan. 15 and Feb. 18, noon-3 p.m. Work on practicing techniques and concepts that will help you make the most out of your winter shots. Camera gear required. Cost: $28 member, $40 nonmembesr.

Basic Buttercream Holiday Decorating

Saturday, Dec. 10, 2-4 p.m. Learn all about buttercream basic decorating. Beginners welcome — sugar cookies, cupcakes and toppings provided. For ages 8 and older. Cost: $16 member, $24 non-members, $5 supply fee.

Introduction to Letterpress: Christmas Cards

Monday, Dec. 12, 6-8 p.m. Using a 19th century proofing press, learn the basics of letterpress typesetting, inking and printing. Cost: $16 members, $24non-members, $5 supply fee.
