Ease into January with new art shows

- The student art show at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center will feature works by high school students, as well as adult students in Crossroads’ classes.
BAKER CITY — Several new art shows open Friday, Jan. 6, and one continues with new additions to the show.
Crossroads Carnegie Art Center
2020 Auburn Ave.
The annual January student show will be on display from Friday, Jan. 6 to Saturday, Jan. 28. An opening reception happens during First Friday at 5:30 p.m. with a musical performance by Travis Short and pizza for participating high school students and their families, while supplies last.
The gallery space will feature the artwork of the local high school students, as well as the artwork of adult art students of Crossroads.
“We invite all of our visitors to come and support the hardworking, student talent of visual arts as they display an incredible variety of their latest creations in a professional gallery space,” said Alyson Spiering, community art director.
Churchill Hall Pass Gallery
3451 Broadway St.
John Simpkins continues his show of large-scale works — measuring 7-feet by 12-feet — and will also have smaller-scale reproductions available. This Friday will unveil a new piece that hasn’t been seen before.
Churchill will be open for First Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.
Royal Artisan
1912 Main St.
Richard Springer will exhibit new works during January at Royal Artisan, starting on First Friday at 5 p.m.
Baker Heritage Museum at Betty’s Books
1813 Main St.
The museum will have a display of unidentified photographs at the bookstore starting at 4:30 p.m.
“We’re hoping to engage the public by helping us identify faces, buildings and backgrounds,” said Gracie Hardy, collections manager and programming coordinator.
