The February craft is beginning embroidery at the Union Carnegie Library.

UNION — Once a month, a volunteer shares a special artistic project for Adult Craft Night, held the second Monday of the month at the Union Carnegie Library, 182 Main St.

The next craft night is Monday, Feb. 13, 5-6 p.m. Participants will learn how to embroider with volunteer instructor Kris Grubb, who will demonstrate basic stitching skills. The hoops, thread and other supplies will be made available to attendees free of charge.

“We’ve been doing Adult Craft Night for about 14 months now, and on average we have six people attending from the public,” lead librarian Tiffany Derichsweiler said. “We can tell when the craft is especially popular because then we may have 18 people in attendance. Our biggest hit was elderberry syrup taught by a local herbalist.”

In January, the class featured painting shell trinket trays, and the finished products were photographed and posted on social media for people to see. For future craft classes, some have recommended a desire for several creative crafts.

“We’re looking for instructors for classes in macrame, pine needle basket weaving, crocheting and knitting, potion making, beadwork, jewelry making, yoga and scrapbooking,” she said.

Derichsweiler is looking for craft ideas that can be completed within the hour timeframe. She is interested in hosting an introduction to ukulele or some other musical instrument playing.

Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to just show up at the library a little before 5 p.m. There is no advance registration required to attend. Bring a friend and enjoy some time out, get together and get creative.

“We advertise in the City Newsletter once a month and on our Facebook page Union, OR Carnegie Library and on Instagram Carnegie Union Library or @carnegiethebookfaerie,” Derichsweiler said.

If you have a creative craft idea and would like to be a volunteer instructor for one of the upcoming Adult Craft Nights, or you have a question about what’s happening, call the library at 541-562-5811 during normal business hours Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
