BAKER CITY — Jeff and Susan Jentzsch are back after a month in Africa, and they’ll have a grand re-opening of their Art Roamers shop on Saturday, March 18.

The store, at 1902 Main St., will be open from noon to 6 p.m. with new products, makumbwe (snacks), coffee and tea.

“Kenya is famous for teas and coffees,” Jeff said.

They’ll have new paintings from a Ugandan artist, and a short video detailing their most recent trip to Africa.

The couple founded Art Roamers to represent African artists, and connect them with a wider audience by bringing the artwork to America. The artists they represent can be found at www.artroamers.com/artists.

Not all the art is confined to the Art Roamers shop — anyone who has been through Baker City in the last few years can’t help but notice the parade of African animals, welded from metal drums, that decorate downtown sidewalks and building walls.

The animal sculptures will start appearing downtown in May.

“We’ve added some that haven’t been there before,” Jeff said.

Aside from the March 18 event, Art Roamers is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
