PENDLETON — Bartenders from the area will square off mano-a-mano in a contest to benefit the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame.

In its 11th year, the Battle of the Bars is Friday, April 14, 4-11 p.m. in the Let ’er Buck Room at the Pendleton Round-Up Grounds, 1205 SW Court Ave. There is no admission charge for the 21-and-older event. In addition to master mixologists battling it out, the fundraiser features a cornhole tournament, which was added in 2022.

“Battle of the Bars is one of the most fun events the Hall of Fame puts on each year,” Casey White-Zollman, Hall of Fame president, said. “And we’re so appreciative of the support we receive from local restaurants and bars who participate and the community members to attend.”

In the cornhole tournament’s second year, teams of two will compete in either the upper or lower division. The cost is $60 per team. Winners will receive a cash prize.

Those interested in participating in the tournament can register during the night of the event from 4-4:45 p.m. The bags will start flying at 5 p.m. and will continue throughout the evening.

In the Battle of the Bars, bartenders will compete for the Best of the West title by creating a signature cocktail that contains Pendleton Whisky. Those in attendance can purchase drink tickets, which will include a voting chip. Also, tasting chips will be available for those that want to try all of the drinks prior to casting their vote.

As the battle ends, votes will be tallied. The winning bar will receive a plaque, swag bag and bragging rights for the year. In 2022, The Prodigal Son Brewery & Pub — with The Whisky Bent — edged out Pendleton Catering Company by three points for the victory.

The Battle of the Bars, White-Zollman said, is the Hall of Fame’s biggest yearly fundraiser. She said money raised goes to help protect and preserve the traditions and heritage of Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon.

“It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come together for some good-natured competition and some fun,” White-Zollman said.

Located at 1114 SW Court Ave., the museum was founded in 1969. Featuring everything from a full-sized teepee, wagons and court royalty clothing to trophies, saddles and photographs, it received honorable mention in True West Magazine’s Top Western Museums in 2011.

It is open March through November. Admission is free. For operating hours, contact 541-278-0815 or ruphalloffame@gmail.com. For more information, visit www.rounduphalloffame.org or follow via Facebook at bit.ly/406JwsF.
