MORO — Things are happening this weekend in Moro.
The second annual Sherman County Harvest Fest is Sunday, July 23, and brings a children’s fair, artisan market, live music and more to Dewey Street in the small town of Moro.
K’Lynn Lane, executive director of the Oregon Frontier Chamber of Commerce, said the event brings people together to celebrate Sherman County.
“It’s just a great community event. It’s all about getting people out to see and experience these places we call home,” she said.
The Sherman County Harvest Festival will run most of the afternoon and into early evening. The children’s fair is from 2-4 p.m., and the artisan market is from 2-5 p.m. Countryfied will provide live entertainment from 4-7 p.m., all of it on Dewey Street in Moro.
The Harvest Fest is one of the events created out of the new Oregon Frontier Chamber of Commerce, a 2022 rebranding of the Condon Chamber of Commerce to support 11 rural communities and three counties. Instead of focusing on businesses and events from one community, Lane and the Oregon Frontier Chamber of Commerce focus on promoting events and businesses across Gilliam, Sherman and Wheeler counties.
Lane said visitors often find the three counties different than what they expected.
“I think people are always pleasantly surprised,” Lane said. “There are more services and more things to do than people realize.”
For those attending the Sherman County Harvest Fest from outside the region, Lane recommends making the trip to Moro and visiting the festival — and enjoying nearby sites, such as the Sherman County Historical Museum or local hiking and fishing opportunities.
“From Moro, it’s just 20 minutes to Cottonwood Canyon State Park, one of Oregon’s newest state parks, and it’s just beautiful,” she said.
