“All of us are musical,” said Jessa Young.
Wildwing was founded by three sisters in 2018 — Jessa Young, Anna Watkins-Anawalt and Amy Watkins-Nelson.
The group is described as “Celtic/World/Folk.” Between the trio, instruments include violin, mandolin, keys, guitar, record, Irish whistle, piano and wooden flutes.

“And sometimes our mom will jump in and play the accordion,” Young said. “Overall we build up to quite a high-energy show.”
Wildwing plays Saturday, Aug. 12, at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance at churchillbaker.com or $18 at the door.
Wildwing is based in northern Utah’s Cache Valley. The sisters grew up in a family with nine children, and their family band often played at dances where they performed songs from multiple decades.
“It was a good way to learn cover songs,” Young said.
All are classically trained, she said, but have since focused on different styles of music — folk and Celtic for Watkins-Anawalt (fiddle), and Renaissance for Watkins-Nelson (violin).
“We all branched out in different ways,” Young said.
But they leaned toward their Irish, Scottish and English ancestors.
“Celtic music is in our blood,” she said.
Their band name, Wildwing, was inspired by Celtic myths and stories.
“We all have a whimsical side,” she said. “And we’re big nature lovers.”
Wildwing toured locally and regionally in 2018 and 2019, and recently started again after a break during the pandemic.
