BAKER CITY — Corrine Vegter has been busy thinking of ways to scare people, and this month she’ll unveil the newest edition of Churchill Haunted Studios.

The first night is, of course, Friday the 13th.
“The scariest day of the year,” she said.
Haunted Studios are located in the basement of the historic Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St. Entry to the experience is through the parking lot off 16th Street.

The haunt will be open Fridays and Saturdays this month, starting Oct. 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets are $13 in advance or $18 at the door. Purchase tickets at churchillbaker.com (click on “Haunted Studios” at the top of the page).
Vegter has worked on the haunt for many months and said visitors will be greeted with new (and scary) scenes.
“Almost everything has been wiped out from last year and redone,” she said. “It’s pretty much all new. I’ve got hundreds of hours down here.”
She’s been assisted by many helpers, including Christopher Hobson, who assisted with set design, sound and light, and Cynthia Sexton, a digital projection artist.
Each night will feature about 10 actors.
And, even though it is designed to be scary, Vegter and her volunteers work on the haunt with an artistic approach.
“It’s really a lot of beauty, collided with horror,” she said.
Billy Mickelson, of the band Third Seven, wrote a soundtrack for part of the haunt, and he’ll even be participating as an actor on the opening weekend. Justin Kendall also assisted with sound design.
She said others who helped make the haunt possible are Brian Vegter, Suzette and Tom Shrider, Heather and Ruby Heriza, Brandi McPherson, Lara Petitclerc, Karen Morse and Jeff Pouliot.
