The musicians
John Hewitt is a modern songwriter hailing from Edmonton, Canada, standing on the legs of the heavy-hitting inspiration before him. Taking influences from Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Van Morrison, his music “represents a student who has adapted everything he’s learned from his teachers.”
“American Hotel,” his first Alberta release, was shelved due to the pandemic, but after writing and recording an additional four albums worth of material, he celebrated in April 2022 with a sold-out triple album release show.
Simone is a musician and songwriter from Portland. She writes and performs in styles branching from deep blues roots through soul, R&B and folk, with “electrifying intensity and a big heart.” Her current project, “Songbook: A Memoir in Music,” recalls a decade of the artist’s life with lyrics, sheet music and intimate insights into her life, process and the origins of more than 50 songs.
James Dean Kindle is a singer-songwriter-performer born, raised and residing in Pendleton. As both a solo artist and with The Eastern Oregon Playboys and Swäwm Pass, Kindle has released several full-length albums and singles and performed in venues and festivals across the Pacific Northwest (Treefort, Jackalope Jamboree, Electric Fences) and internationally (Japan and Germany).
In 2022, Kindle served as one of the many Johnny Cash performers in the Elgin Opera House’s production of “Ring of Fire,” and performed minimalist composer Steve Reich’s “Electric Counterpoint” with the Oregon East Symphony.
Earlier this year, his original instrumental compositions were featured in the KUOW/NPR podcast series “Ghost Herd” by Northwest Public Broadcasting journalist Anna King. He is preparing for a spring 2024 release of his first full-length album since 2018, titled “Trail Mix.” When not performing or recording, he serves as executive director of the Oregon East Symphony.
