Communities set table for Thanksgiving

EASTERN OREGON — Organizations in several towns across Eastern Oregon are planning special meals for Thanksgiving to ensure that people have an opportunity to enjoy a holiday dinner with others. Unless otherwise noted, the community meals are free and held on Thursday, Nov. 23 — Thanksgiving Day.

BAKER CITY

Calvary Baptist Church will have a free Thanksgiving Day meal on Thursday, Nov. 23 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Browning Hall at the church, 2130 Fourth St. The traditional meal features turkey, dressing, sides and dessert.

BOARDMAN

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner is gearing up for its 15th year in Boardman. The meal will be served Thursday, Nov. 23, 2-4 p.m. at the Port of Morrow Riverfront Center, 2 E. Marine Drive. A praise service starts at 1:30 p.m.

Enterprise

A community Thanksgiving dinner is set for 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, at Cloverleaf Hall, 600 NW First St. The meal is free, although donations to the food bank and dinner are welcome.

Heppner

The annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner is Thursday, Nov. 23, 1 p.m. at Gateway Cafe, 168 N. Main St. The meal is free and open to all. For more information, call 541-676-6000.

Hermiston

The first of two free holiday meals is offered on Thanksgiving Day — Thursday, Nov. 23 — at Hermiston High School, 600 S. First St. The Community Fellowship Dinner runs from noon to 3 p.m. Also, takeout meals (limited menu) can be picked up between 2-4 p.m.

In addition to dine-in and takeout service, local deliveries are available. To schedule a meal delivery, call 541-571-1337 before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

This is the holiday meal ministry’s 41st year. In 2022, about 1,300 Thanksgiving meals were served. The nonprofit effort accepts donations. Mail to: CFD, P.O. Box 1551, Hermiston, OR 97838.

Island City

Faith Center invites the community to a free Thanksgiving dinner with food, family and fellowship on Thursday, Nov. 23, 3 p.m. in the Next Gen building, 10208 S. D St. Doors open at 11 a.m. for those who would like to cook together. For details, call Brooke, 541-663-6589.

John Day

The John Day Elks Lodge, 140 NE Dayton St., will host a free community Thanksgiving Day dinner on Nov. 23, noon to 3 p.m. The meal includes the traditional fixings and dessert. Those attending are welcome to enjoy the dinner at the lodge, or have it boxed to go. Volunteers are needed — to help, call 541-575-1824.

Those who are homebound can request a delivery by calling 541-575-1824 by Nov. 22 — leave a message with your name, address, phone number and how many meals you need.

Pendleton

The Salvation Army Pendleton Corps is hosting its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 23, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 150 SE Emigrant Ave.

Deliveries are available for senior citizens, shut-ins and those with disabilities — make arrangements by Wednesday, Nov. 22.
