Let him read your mind…

BAKER CITY — Peter Antoniou always wanted a superpower.

Growing up in London, he was drawn to comic books, especially the “X-Men.”

“I wished I had a superpower,” he said.

He also had a tarot deck and that, paired with his interest in superheroes, led him to a career where he reads the minds of his audience.

“I guess people can just learn how to read minds — I can do that,” he remembers thinking as a youngster.

Then he laughs at the memory.

“I was a super weird child.”

He describes himself as a “psychic” comedian, and he’ll bring his show to Baker City on Friday, Dec. 8, at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St. Doors open at 6 p.m., and local musician Add Collard opens at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $18 in advance at churchillbaker.com, or $25 at the door. Admission is free for age 15 and younger who attend with a paid adult.

Antoniou studied with psychologists, hypnotists, psychics, magicians and shamans, then paired his knowledge with a background in improvisational comedy.

By the time he graduated college, he said his shows were paying the bills.

He moved to Seattle in 2021, and appeared on season 16 of “America’s Got Talent.” He made it to the semi-finals, then returned for “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars.”

That was his first live show following the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.

“My first in-person performance was in front of Simon’s scowling face,” Antoniou said.

That would be Simon Cowell, a judge on “America’s Got Talent.”

Following that show, Antoniou hosted live shows in Las Vegas in 2022. This year has been more typical, he said, with about 200 days on the road to tour his show.

Although a quick internet search yields samples of his act, he said those won’t prepare the audience for his upcoming performance.

“The show is entirely different from any clips you’ll see online,” he said. “It’s going to be lots of fun, very light-hearted.”
