The celebration season continues

EASTERN OREGON — All corners of our region are celebrating the season, from Enterprise’s Winterfest event to the Timber Truckers Light Parade in John Day. Read on to find a holiday parade or celebration near you.

Baker City

Santa is making a stop at Ryder Bros., 1735 Main St. in Baker City, on Saturday, Dec. 9, from noon to 3 p.m. Children can visit with Santa and get photos taken with him for free. The afternoon also includes face painting, crafts, snacks and game demonstrations.

Boardman

In its eighth year, SECO Pallets will deliver Santa Claus in a special sleigh made out of, what else, pallets! Santa Drive is Saturday, Dec. 23, 5 p.m., starting at the Boardman business with an escort by the Boardman police and fire departments.

The lighted parade will make its way down Main Street on its way to the SAGE Center, 101 Olson Road — where Santa will pose for photo ops and give gifts to all the good boys and girls (while supplies last). Cove

Cove’s holiday celebration is Sunday, Dec. 10 brings a Christmas tea and Santa photos at the Cove Ascension School from 4-6 p.m. Entry is pay what you can, but recommended cost is $5 children and $10 adults.

Starting at 6 p.m., there will be a cookie exchange at the fire station (bring your favorite cookies at 5:30 p.m.) and Christmas stories at the library. The tree lighting follows at 6:30 p.m. on the library lawn with caroling led by the Calvary Baptist Church and Cove High School choir.

Elgin

The Elgin Lions Light Parade is Saturday, Dec. 9, starting at 6 p.m. Entry is free, and cash prizes will be awarded. Entries line up next to the card lock station by the Boise Cascade mills at 5 p.m.

There are three $150 cash prizes awarded, one to the best entry in each of three categories (youth, commercial, non-commercial).

The parade ends at the stampede grounds around 7 p.m. After the parade there will be a free chili feed furnished by the Elgin Stampeders, singing of Christmas carols at the park next to Cowboys and Angels, and lighting of the Christmas tree.

Enterprise

The 25th annual Winterfest celebration is Saturday, Dec. 9 in Enterprise. Santa Central opens at noon, and kids can ride the barrel train all afternoon. Burn barrels will be set up to ward off the chill, and everyone can sample roasted chestnuts. For other food options, check out the local restaurants and food trucks that will be set up downtown.

The Winterfest parade starts at 5:30 p.m.

Fossil

Wheeler County’s holiday light festival in Fossil begins Saturday, Dec. 16, 4-7 p.m. at Isobel Edwards Hall. There will also be a fundraiser dinner for the Wheeler County Shooting and More 4-H Club. Other activities include cookie decorating, crafts, hot chocolate, photos with Santa and “Frozen” characters, a warming fire and marshmallow roasting and hayrides.

The drive-thru light display will be open nightly from 5-8 p.m. through Dec. 27. Entry is free.

Long Creek

The Long Creek Mercantile is planning an ornament making party on Saturday, Dec. 9, starting at 4 p.m. at the Mercantile Cafe. Ornaments will decorate the community tree, which will be illuminated at dusk.

The afternoon includes Christmas music, hot cocoa and snacks.

John Day

The 30th annual Timber Truckers light parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 9, 6 p.m. in downtown John Day.

Entry is $10, and floats can register from 3-5:30 p.m. at Iron Triangle’s Scale Shack. The parade starts at Iron Triangle and goes east on Main Street, then turns left on Third Street Extension to the John Day Elks Lodge.

Prizes will be awarded for People’s Choice ($100) and second place ($50), as well as first through third place in each category (timber, commercial, farm and ranch, community).

Pendleton

The Pendleton Downtown Association sponsors a holiday lighted parade on Saturday, Dec. 9, 4:30 p.m. The route starts at SW Frazer and SW Second Street, then follows Main Street to Court Street and ends at Roy Raley Park.

Participation in the parade is free, and applications can be found at pendletondowntown.org or at the Heritage Station Museum. Entry forms can be emailed to shannong@heritagestationmuseum.org or dropped off at the museum by Dec. 6.

Pilot Rock

The annual light parade and chili feed is Sunday, Dec. 10, 5 p.m. Free chili and hot chocolate (while supplies last) will be available following the parade in council chambers.

Parade line up is at 4:30 p.m. Entry forms are available at City Hall or the city’s website, cityofpilotrock.org.

Sumpter

Sumpter’s holiday weekend is Saturday, Dec. 9 with a Christmas bazaar at locations along the main street, along with a light parade at 5 p.m., followed by the tree lighting. Throughout the day, visitors can make ornaments — one to decorate the town tree, and one to take home.

Santa will make several trips to Sumpter. Children can visit with him Dec. 9, 16 and 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sumpter Nugget Cafe, 160 Mill St. Photos are $10, and proceeds will be donated to the Sumpter Fire Department. To schedule a visit, call 541-894-2400.
