BAKER CITY — Nogero is bringing its heavy metal sound over Ladd Canyon to play in Baker City for the first time.
“We’ve been eager to play and show our neighbors what we’re passionate about and what we can do,” said Shawn Turley, who plays bass.
Their show is Saturday, Dec. 16, at Churchill School. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance at churchillbaker.com or $15 at the door.
The show opens with Baker City’s Thunder Pumper, featuring Damon Rose, Loran Joseph, Justin Kendall and Euell Macke. This band has played together for about eight years, performing mostly original songs plus a couple of “obscure” covers, Rose said. He describes Thunder Pumper as an “instrumental rock cooperative with vocals.”
Nogero
Nogero features Turley, Nik Hackney on guitar, Ian Dill on drums and Jim Noyes on vocals.
The four have been “close, close friends for the past 10 years,” Turley said.
All of them played music in high school, then wound up living in La Grande and decided to start a band.
Turley started writing songs around 2016.
“Our first show we played was in a buddy’s living room,” he said.
He said their heavy metal sound is “very approachable” with a “party aspect twist.”
“Metal can be really conducive to a positive vibe,” Turley said.
Nogero has played at La Grande’s HQ seven times, and performed “Metal at Midnight” for several years during La Grande’s New Year’s Eve celebration.
This is their first show outside of La Grande, and Turley hopes to expand their touring schedule.
“It’s so fun to share what we’ve accomplished,” he said. “I’d love to come back to Baker in the summer — make Baker our second home for a show or two a year.”
Their most recent show was in La Grande, when they opened for Thunder Pumper.
Turley said Nogero never plays the same show twice with a roster of nearly 25 original songs.
