Art shows debut Jan. 5 in Baker City

Photographer Tom Reed will show his work at the Geiser Grand on First Friday, Jan. 5.

BAKER CITY — Art galleries and shops across town will be open late for the First Friday art walk on Jan. 5. Most open at 5 p.m. and continue until about 8 p.m.

Crossroads Carnegie Art Center

2020 Auburn Ave.

Crossroads will celebrate the annual Student Art Show with an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 5, 5-8 p.m. The featured art is work submitted by emerging artists from high school students to adult learners.

Several Crossroads teachers will share information about classes, and talk about student work at 5:30 p.m.

Dan Brown will play music on guitar and there will be a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Paizano’s Pizza.

The show continues throughout the month. The art center is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Geiser Grand

1996 Main St.

The Geiser is joining First Friday on Jan. 5, 5-8 p.m., featuring the photography of Tom Reed. The monthly exhibits will be displayed in the hotel’s historic 1889 Cafe and Lounge.

Reed’s work is centered on the experience of awe at the sight of a landscape and said he hopes it “leads to the consideration that nature itself is divine, sacred, and that stewardship, as opposed to the dominant utilitarian view, is the only sane attitude.”

Churchill Hall Pass Gallery

3451 Broadway St.

Churchill will showcase a variety of concert posters created for the shows held at the concert hall. The posters feature original artwork and signatures by the visiting performers.

Royal Artisan

1912 Main St.

Royal Artisan will host ceramics and multimedia art by Mark McGibbon. The opening reception begins at 5 p.m. with music by D’Club L’Eveque.

Broderick Gallery

1829 Main St.

This gallery will be open until 8 p.m. on First Friday. Currently on display is George Broderick’s work, as well as work by artists from Boise, Scotland, Chile and Cuba.

Baker Food Co-op

2008 Broadway St.

Tina Ota will showcase her pottery during First Friday, 4-7 p.m., at the food co-op. Light snacks will be served.
