Baker High School presents ‘Clue’

BAKER CITY — Was it Colonel Mustard?

Or maybe Professor Plum?

Mrs. White, who “may or may not be the murderer of her five ex-husbands,” doesn’t seem very innocent either.

The only way to find out is to see Baker High School’s performances of “Clue” this month.

This year, Baker High School offered a drama class, and the upcoming play features students enrolled in that period, as well as those who rehearsed after school.

The program is so robust that “Clue” actually features two different casts — the “gold” cast is the more experienced actors and the “purple” cast is akin to a junior varsity.

Theater instructor Jesse Taub said this has allowed students fairly new to theater to get a chance at main parts in the play.

This is, he said, the department’s first full-length production in several years, and runs about 90 minutes.

“Clue” will run for two weekends in the BHS auditorium. The gold cast will perform Thursday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., and the purple cast presents the matinee at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28. (There is no show on Friday, Jan. 26, due to a home basketball game.) The second weekend of shows is Feb. 1 (gold) at 7 p.m., Feb. 2 (purple) at 7 p.m., Feb. 3 (mixed cast) at 7 p.m. and Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. (gold).

Admission is $5 adults, $3 seniors and free for students and children.

This production of “Clue” is inspired by the board game and follows the movie version from 1985.

“The show is really fun,” said senior Ellie Lamb. “It’s nostalgic if you know the ‘Clue’ game or movie.”

The plot is set in the mid-1950s, and Mr. Boddy has invited a cast of characters to his mansion.

And then people start dying. The survivors pair up to investigate but eventually start accusing each other of murder.

“It’s been a lovely group of people — murders aside,” Col. Mustard says as the group gathers in a room of the mansion.

Indeed — it’s hard to tell who is innocent with this suspicious cast of characters.

“Who doesn’t love a good murder mystery?” Taub said.
