EASTERN OREGON — The Eastern Oregon Climate Change Coalition (EOC3) is partnering with Pendleton Center for the Arts, Crossroads Carnegie Arts Center in Baker City, and Art Center East in La Grande to invite teens and youths to enter a climate change poster contest that started Jan. 3.

The winning entries at each center will be recognized with cash awards — $500 for first, $300 for second, $200 for third, and three $100 honorable mention prizes.

“This year set global records for heat. As our climate continues to warm, we need to engage all generations, especially our youth who will be mostly affected by a warming climate over time,” said Jeff Blackwood, EOC3 board president. “We want to give youth and teens an opportunity to express themselves, and poster-making is a great way to explore ideas.”

Submissions are open to teens ages 13-18 years. An additional category for 12 and under will include four $50 awards.

All media, digital and handcrafted, will be accepted, and free art supplies and workspace will be provided at each of the three community art centers.

The deadline for submission in each community is listed on the respective websites for the three art centers, along with judging and awards ceremony dates. More information is available at pendletonarts.org, artcentereast.org, crossroads-arts.org, or by emailing Blackwood at jeff.bwood@gmail.com.

The contest is made possible through the support of Amazon Web Services.
