Shelter from the Storm
Shelter from the Storm has been working within the Union County community to provide safety and resources to survivors since 1979. Their mission is to “provide services to empower survivors and transform the community’s understanding and response to interpersonal violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking.”
That mission is achieved through education, support groups, community collaboration, prevention work, advocacy, awareness outreach and emergency supportive services.

About the musicians
Elwood specializes in all-natural folk and soul music and has been a part of the Union County music scene for most of his life. He says he’s always “been inspired by the serenity and sheer power of Mother Nature — the trickle of a stream, the roar of a thundercloud, the pure silence of a meadow lit by the coming of the sun.” He has shared the stage with bands such as Simon Tucker, Tim Snider, Michael Kirkpatrick, Kory Quinn, Left Coast Country, David Henry and many more.
Slapjack Casualty serves up original tunes with influences of rock, blues, Americana and folk. Everyone in the band plays multiple instruments, ranging from guitars, mandolin, fiddle, bass and drums. They describe themselves as “a folk rock band with wrinkles.”
“It’s foot-stomping music,” said band member Brian Mandella. “By the end of the set, we have them dancing.”
