- The Pendleton Run began the festivities on July 20, 2023, with a Kickoff Party and Bike Night at Roy Raley Park. Tickets are available for the 2024 event, which is July 18-20 in and around the Pendleton Round-Up Grounds.
Library’s winter book sale is Feb. 2-11
BAKER CITY — The Friends of the Baker County Library will have a winter book sale from Feb. 2-11 during the library’s regular hours in the Riverside Meeting Room at the library, 2400 Resort St. On the final two days, Feb. 10-11, most books will sell for 25 cents. Volunteers who can help with the sale can sign up at the library (leave your phone number).
PinkFusion provides music for benefit concert
ENTERPRISE — A “My Funny Valentine” benefit concert is planned for Friday, Feb. 2, to support the Wallowa Valley Center for Wellness.
Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall, 105 NE First St. Tickets are $30 and available at www.wvcenterforwellness.org (click on the “events” tab).
Music will be provided by PinkFusion, a duo of Leslie Mauldin and Sean Rogers. Both have established solo careers, and now as PinkFusion combines Rogers on piano and vocals with Mauldin on lead vocals, guitar and writing songs. They perform “jazz and blues standards with their own original arrangements, original pop, folk and blues.”

LA GRANDE — The OSU Master Gardener program in Union County is offering community classes on a variety of topics.
Register by Feb. 5 for the classes, which cost $10 each, or all eight for $75 (the class on fruit tree pruning is $20).
The first one is “Botany Basics” on Feb. 6, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Union County Extension Office, 10507 N. McAlister Road. Then, join “Entomology” on Feb. 13 and “Vegetable Gardening” on Feb. 27, both 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.
The next month brings the pruning workshop on March 2 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Ascension Center in Cove, and then “Trees and Shrubs” on March 5 and “Pesticide Safety” on March 19. The series wraps up with “Sustainable Lawn Care” on April 2 and “Berries and Small fruits” on April 16.

Daddy Daughter Dance is happening Feb. 10
PENDLETON — Fathers and daughters can again celebrate an elegant evening of dancing during the 19th annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Feb. 10, 6 p.m. at the Pendleton Convention Center.
Pendleton Parks and Recreation organizes the dance. As a formal event, families are encouraged to dress up. The theme is “black and gold.”
As in past years, the event will feature decorations, dance music provided by a DJ, hors d’oeuvres and other refreshments, including the famous chocolate fountain. Admission includes a posed photo, gifts at the door and a ticket for a chance at multiple prize drawings throughout the evening.
Tickets for the Daddy Daughter Dance are $25 per person, and each father and daughter will require separate tickets to participate. Traveler’s Club meets Feb. 8
HERMISTON — The Hermiston Traveler’s Club, a nonprofit organization that meets the second Thursday of the month, will next gather at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, in the gym at First Christian Church, 775 W. Highland Ave. in Hermiston.
Attendees plan day trips, tours and enjoy socializing. Dues for active members are $10 for 2024.

Book reading set for Feb. 6 at Josephy Center
JOSEPH — Pam Royes will read from her book “Temperance Creek: A Memoir” on Tuesday, Feb. 6, noon at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture, 403 N. Main St.
Royes published the book eight years ago. It recounts her arrival to Wallowa County 50 years ago and is the story of “two people, their critters, workmates, and their children as they settle into a life with livestock in Wallowa County.” Copies are for sale at the Bookloft in Enterprise and the Josephy Center in Joseph.
Megan Alder plays at Barley Brown’s on Feb. 9
BAKER CITY — Barley Brown’s welcomes Megan Alder on Friday, Feb. 9, starting at 6 p.m. Hailing from the Columbia River Gorge, Alder performs upbeat swing and Americana. Influenced by artists like Billie Holiday and Bonnie Raitt, Alder performs as a solo artist with “live loops and kazoo flair.” Her latest release “Dark Side” features four original songs recorded in Parkdale.

Community leadership class starts Feb. 8
MILTON-FREEWATER — Sherwood Trust and Rural Development Initiatives are partnering to bring The Sherwood Trust Community Leadership program to Milton-Freewater. This cohort-designed program is for anyone who wants to make a difference in their community.
The program is for anyone over 18 who wants to work on a project in their community. Sessions are set for Feb. 8, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6 and July 11. All begin at 4 p.m., and several will be a virtual format. Participation is free. The location will be determined when people register.

Sweetheart indoor sale planned
JOSEPH — The Hurricane Creek Grange’s 13th annual Sweetheart Indoor Yard Sale is Feb. 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the grange, the intersection of Hurricane Creek Road and Airport Lane. Items for sale include household collectibles, dog supplies, handcrafted specialties and more.

Valentine’s Day dance supports the radio
BAKER CITY — Celebrate Valentine’s Day by supporting community radio at the first-ever “Love & Radio Dance” on Feb. 14 at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St. (enter through the 16th Street parking lot). Doors open at 6 p.m.
This is a benefit for 89.9 FM KBZR, a local radio station that will go on air later this year. The evening features DJ Auralux and includes song dedications, dance instruction, a Valentine’s photo booth, food by MC Taco Bus and drinks at the Strade B Bar.

Crab Feed benefits Helix Booster Club
HELIX — It’s almost time to get cracking during the annual Helix Booster Club Crab Feed.

Knights of Columbus host festive fundraiser
HERMISTON — An evening of fun is planned as Knights of Columbus Council No. 3999 hosts its fifth annual Mardi Gras event.
The celebration features dinner, dancing and music by Brass Fire Band. The festive fundraiser is Feb. 17, 6-10 p.m. at the Hermiston Community Center, 415 S. Highway 395.

Help raise money for acts of kindness
JOHN DAY — A “Brew Haha” fundraiser is planned Saturday, Feb. 17, to raise funds to perform random acts of kindness throughout Grant County in 2024. This is organized by the Blue Mountain Healthcare Foundation.
Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds pavilion, and dinner starts at 6 p.m. with pork ribs by Lenny Dowdy and sides by Snaffle Bit Dinner House. The evening includes a live auction and silent auction.

‘On Illness — Telling Your Story’ begins Feb. 3
ENTERPRISE — Jim Dameron will lead a writing workshop titled “On Illness — Telling Your Story” through Fishtrap. The four sessions will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays, Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24 at Fishtrap, 107 W. Main St.

This workshop is intended to help participants make sense of a serious illness by writing about it. The class will look at examples of illness writing and work toward crafting essays, poems or stories.
Escape Rooms offer group fun at EOTEC
HERMISTON — Hermiston Parks & Recreation invites residents to unlock an adventure with three Escape Rooms of different skill levels. The activity, recommended for ages 10 and up, is available on Feb. 9 at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, 1705 E. Airport Road, Hermiston.

HALFWAY — Tickets are on sale for the 56th annual crab feed organized by the Halfway Lions Club. The event is March 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Huddle up for flag football in Umatilla
UMATILLA — Registration is now open for youth co-ed flag football (ages 5-14) through Umatilla Parks & Recreation. The early registration fee (by Feb. 24) is $50 per player. Late registration, accepted through March 15, is $65. The fee includes a jersey.

Get revved up with Pendleton Run
PENDLETON — Three full days of motorcycle riding, live music, food and more moto fun are featured during The Pendleton Run.
Formerly known as Pendleton Bike Week, the event is July 18-20 at the Pendleton Round-Up Grounds and Roy Raley Park. Presented by Russ Brown MC Attorneys, it includes the Summer Chute Out Flat Track Race, the Til Taylor Poker Run, Party in the Park and more — with free admission to Vendor Alley.
The full 2024 music lineup still needs to be finalized. However, confirmed acts include Fallout, Wicked Mary, Fastlane, Blue Tattoo, Stoney Lonesome Band, Jagged Edge and The Wasteland Kings.
A Cruiser Pass is $80 and the VIP Pass is $125. Ticket packages (with and without camping options) also are available. In addition, Chute Out race tickets are $10 to $30.

22nd halibut feed is March 16
NORTH POWDER — The 22nd annual Alaskan halibut fundraiser is happening March 16 at Powder Valley’s gymnasium. This event supports the girls volleyball and basketball programs.
