ENTERPRISE, LA GRANDE — The biggest book club is here.
Every year, Fishtrap in Enterprise sponsors The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts where participants read the same book and then can join special events.
This year’s book is “The Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude” by Ross Gay. Fishtrap has provided more than 600 free books and resources to schools, libraries and community centers in Wallowa and Union counties.
Also, Fishtrap is partnering with Cook Memorial Library and Eastern Oregon University Library to host weekly events and discussions mid-February through March for readers of all ages.
The month-long program begins this weekend with special guest Anis Mojgani, Oregon Poet Laureate. He will give two poetry readings: 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at Cook Memorial Library in La Grande, and 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 at Fishtrap in Enterprise and online at fishtrap.org.
The Big Read culminates with a keynote address by Ross Gay on Tuesday, March 12, at the OK Theater in Enterprise.
“We’re very lucky to have Ross Gay come to Wallowa County,” said Fishtrap’s Mike Midlo. “Ross is excited to share his work with us and get to know the people who live here.”
