What We’re Into

If you asked my children about my social media skills, they would probably just laugh.
But I’m getting better.
Thanks to help from an intern at The Observer — thanks, Eva Martin! — I’m learning more about Canva, a design program that is super easy to use.
If you’re on Facebook or Instagram much, or subscribe to newsletters from local organizations, it’s nearly guaranteed that you’ve seen something designed with Canva.
It’s pretty fun to search through the program’s graphics and find backgrounds that match the story — playing cards for the Night at Old Auburn fundraiser, for instance, or musical notes to announce an upcoming concert.
I’m no expert at graphic design, but Canva is quite user-friendly. (I’ve tried other designing programs that frustrated me to no end.) It’s easy to move photographs and text around the page, and that “undo” button is available if something goes awry.
My favorite part is the “animate” button that adds fun visual effects, but I try to tread lightly there.
My Canva designs are posted on the Go! Eastern Oregon accounts for Facebook and Instagram — be sure to check those pages when you’re scrolling!
As for my kids?
They’ve actually started complimenting my efforts — although sometimes they do reply with “You really made that?”
