BAKER CITY — March arrives with new art shows in Baker City for the monthly First Friday art walk.

Churchill Hall Pass Gallery

3451 Broadway St.

Judith Stoffer will open her show “Arboreal Stories” this Friday, 5:30 p.m., at Churchill with oil abstractions and whimsical portraits based on tree forms and textures.

Her show will continue through March, and there are several chances to meet the artist: March 3, 8 and 22 at 6 p.m.

Crossroads Carnegie Art Center

2020 Auburn Ave.

Crossroads will open the dual shows “Passages” by Bonnie McDermott and “Felted Fusion” by Betty Hayzlett on March 1, 5-8 p.m.

An artist talk starts at 5:30 p.m.

McDermott, an oil painter, lives in Boise. The theme from much of the collection is “vine to wine” and showcases various aspects of regional vineyards.

“In my paintings, I strive for a blending of realism with impressionism, abstraction and surrealism to express my emotional and spiritual connection to the natural world,” she said. “No matter what my subject matter, I want my paintings to be uplifting, filled with hope, love and beauty.”

Hayzlett is also from the Boise area and is showcasing her mixed media show that combines a fusion of creative felt work with ceramics, wood and weaving generating imaginative sculpture and wall hangings.

“I make art primarily to create things of beauty,” she said. “I am a sculptor at heart, but also love the tactile quality of fiber art.”

Briarwood Imagiporium

1917 Washington Ave.

According to owner/artist Dawn-Marie deLara, the Briarwood Imagiporium will be displaying the “upside of procrastination, slow art and general time blindness” with oversized veggies that ought to be adorning the Baker Food Co-op windows by now. “Come ogle all the biggie-sized goodness in progress before it gets finished and moved to the Co-op windows,” she said.

Royal Artisan

1912 Main St.

Royal Artisan will feature the works of Becky Litke, who has her Quail Crossing Studio in Haines. She works in watercolor and pastels. The evening also features live music by D’Club L’Eveque.

Sweet Wife Baking

2028 Main St.

Sweet Wife will feature the works of local artists Barbara Meyer and Nancy Coffelt from 5-8 p.m.

Geiser Grand Hotel

1996 Main St.

For March, the hotel will feature whimsical original paintings by Blake Musselman from 5-8 p.m., along with live violin music.

Baker Food Co-op

2008 Broadway St.

The co-op will feature Joshua Dillen of Sourdough Jamz for “the art of food” from 4-7 p.m.
