Register soon for fiddle camp
WALLOWA — Registration opens March 1 for the Wallowa Fiddle Tunes Camp, which is set for July 7-12 at Wallowa School.
The camp started in 2005 to offer a week of group fiddle instruction for individuals and families. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, and afternoons offer electives and free time. Free camping is available at the school.
Registration is $220 per person or $110 for half days. Lunch is an additional $80 per person for the week.
Robyn Burns is the camp director, along with Mike Burns as co-director. This year’s faculty includes Carla Arnold (Kidz Fiddle), Andy Emert (swing and bluegrass fiddle), Kate Lichtenstein (old-time fiddle), Alex MacLeod (old-time fiddle), Emily Muller-Cary (basic adult fiddle), Jacie Sites (Celtic fiddle), John Weed (Irish fiddle), Matt Bell (swing and bluegrass guitar), Duane Boyer (guitar boot camp), Richard Melling (bluegrass and country guitar), Isaac Olson (old-time banjo), Laura Morin (bass), Tyler Weed (mandolin), Mary Ambroson (mini music/art camp) and Amy Fairchild (mini musical theater camp).

Psychedelic rock project coming to Baker City
BAKER CITY — Forest Ray, a psychedelic folk band from Seattle, is coming to Baker City on Sunday, March 3, to play at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 6:45 p.m. Food and beverages will be available to purchase.
Tickets are $12 in advance at eventbrite.com or $18 at the door. Admission is free for ages 15 and younger who attend with a paid adult.
Forest Ray began as a recording project in 2015. Their first two full-length LPs, “Musical Witchcraft” and “Laughing,” were released on vinyl over 2016-18. In the fall of 2019, they released a new LP, “Faded Reflection,” along with a collection of basement recorded analog tracks titled the “Wedgwood Tapes.” The group recorded its fourth studio album, “Black Pine,” during the winter of 2019 to be released in the fall of 2020.
The group released its fifth album, “Always,” in October 2022 which “dives further into folk-rock instrumentation and psychedelic folk rock influences.” They played more than 75 shows in 2022 across the United States and toured Canada with Vinyl Williams in the spring of 2023. Their sixth studio album was released in January 2023 after they completed their first European tour through six countries.
Organist presents Spanish baroque concert
WALLA WALLA — Organist James French will present “Music of the Spanish Baroque” during the First Thursday Concert Series in Walla Walla.
French has served as a music director and organist with numerous ensembles. The free concert is Thursday, March 7, 12:15-12:45 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 323 Catherine St. The public is invited to bring a bag lunch and enjoy the music.
Although the event is free, donations will benefit the Walla Walla Valley Disability Network, which provides services to improve the quality of life for families and individuals with disabilities. For more about its programs, search www.wwvdn.org.

Union County Health Fair is March 6
LA GRANDE — The Union County Health Fair is set for March 6 from 2-6 p.m. at the Union County Senior Center, 1504 N. Albany St. The fair is hosted by Community Connection and Enhabit Home Health.
Representatives from local agencies will be on site and visitors can learn about healthcare and support services for seniors and people with disabilities.
Game night offers family fun
HERMISTON — An evening of fun for both kids and adults is featured during Family Game Night at The Next Chapter Bookstore.
The event offers an opportunity to try out demo games and enjoy snacks with family and friends. It is Saturday, March 2, 4-7 p.m. in the Talery Plaza, 1000 S. Highway 395, Suite C. The cost is $5 per person.
A wide array of board and card games for all ages and skill levels will be available to try out. Participants will receive a 15% discount on all games purchased during the event.

PENDLETON — College Community Theater’s winter show “Freaky Friday” has one more weekend of shows at the Bob Clapp Theatre on the campus of Blue Mountain Community College.
Shows are at 7 p.m. on Feb. 29, March 1 and 2; the last matinee show begins at 2 p.m. on March 3.

Last chance to see ‘Murder on the Orient Express’
ELGIN — The Elgin Opera House is presenting Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” for one more weekend at the Jewel Theater, 831 Alder St.
The show on Friday, March 1, starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2 has two performances, 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
“Murder on the Orient Express” follows the plot of the Christie mystery novel of the same name as adapted by Ken Ludwig. At the center of the mystery is Agatha Christie’s well-known Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, who uses his brain power — or “little grey cells” as he says — to solve the murder.

Healing from Within: Herbalism Basics
LA GRANDE — Are you curious about the medicinal properties of plants and the safety of plant medicine and plant allies? On Feb. 29 from 6-8 p.m., Art Center East, 1006 Penn Ave., is offering “Healing from Within: Herbalism Basics” for ages 21 and over.
Teaching artist Mary Horn will talk about familiar and new herbs, and participants will create infused oils and tinctures. All supplies are included. The cost is $45 for members and $55 for nonmembers.

LA GRANDE — Registration is open for the Shamrock Run, which happens March 16 and is organized by La Grande Main Street Downtown. Entry is $30 for the 5K or $50 for the 10K. Children age 12 and younger are free with support from Grande Ronde Hospital.
