PENDLETON — The Oregon East Symphony welcomes guest pianist Eldred Marshall for a performance of Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 4” as part of its spring concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 10 at the Vert Auditorium, 480 SW Dorion Ave.

The symphony will also perform Igor Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella Suite” and Chevalier St. George’s “Symphony No. 2 — Overture to L’Amant Anonyme” under the direction of conductor Beau Benson.

Marshall began studying the piano at age 6 and played in public by age 7. According to an OES press release, “his prodigious and inquisitive mind allowed him to master large swaths of the piano repertoire quickly as well as consistently win top prizes at the competitions he entered as a child.”

At age 16, he made his orchestral debut playing Brahms’s “Piano Concerto No. 2” with the Victor Valley Symphony Orchestra. Before entering Yale University, where he graduated with honors with a B.A. in political science, he had already performed all over the United States.

The critically acclaimed pianist has performed in Spain, Italy, the Republic of San Marino, Belgium, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, the People’s Republic of China and Canada. He has performed the entire cycle of 32 Piano Sonatas of Beethoven in public, from memory, as a concentrated series, twice. Presently, Marshall serves as the associate director of music at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall, Texas.

Through a season sponsorship from the Pendleton Foundation Trust, the Oregon East Symphony is offering free general admission to its spring concert. Free tickets are for any unreserved, floor-level seat and can be picked up from a list of downtown Pendleton businesses and organizations that are listed on the OES website.
