- The SAGE Center’s SCI FRI camps include a themed lesson and hands-on projects.
BOARDMAN — The SAGE Center, 101 NE Olson Road, will host 10 SCIence FRIday (SCI FRI) camps between April and August for two age groups: grades 1-3 and grades 4-6.
Camps will be held on Fridays between late April and early August from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating weekly between age groups. Camps are free for all participants and include a complimentary lunch.
Breena Beck, SAGE Center assistant manager, expressed gratitude for the generous support of local industry partners.
“Fortunately, we have incredible industry partners in this area and businesses that support youth events like this,” she said.
This summer marks the fourth year of the SCI FRI camps. Each Friday includes a themed lesson, interactions with local industry professionals, and hands-on projects on themes in science, technology, engineering, agriculture and mathematics. Previous years included lessons on pollinators with a beekeeper, electricity with Umatilla Electric Cooperative, and mosquitoes with Morrow County Vector Control.
While specific guests for this year’s camps are yet to be announced, the focus remains on providing hands-on activities to help kids apply their learning in real-time. More details, including each week’s guests, will be shared soon.
Registration opened March 9 with the option to sign up for one or multiple weeks. Register at visitsage.com/science-fridays.
Each week accommodates 27 students, with a waitlist option once spots are filled. Students should register based on the grade they will be starting in the fall.
