HAINES — The Grande Ronde Symphony Association will present the second Chamber Series concert of the season, “Spring into Folk Music,” on Saturday, March 23 in Haines.
As a part of its Grande Rendezvous Music series, the concert will be presented at the historic Haines United Methodist Church, 721 Robert St., beginning at 7 p.m. Performing will be Brushfire and Blue Plate Special.
Tickets are $12 and available only online at GrandeRondeSymphony.org. Seating is limited to 60 and refreshments will be served.
Brushfire hails from Baker City and consists of Nancy Ames, Robert Anders and Chris Johnson. Johnson and Ames cover vocals and guitar, with some trombone and ukulele thrown in, while Anders holds down the percussion section.
“We play a mix we describe as ‘eclectic Americana’ with some bluegrass, folk, old rock and blues,” Ames said.
Also on the docket is Blue Plate Special, a La Grande bluegrass band that plays an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary selections augmented by an occasional old-time or Irish tune. Band members include Carla Arnold, Jon St. Hilaire, Maryann Zimmerman, Michael Snider and David Arnold.
For this performance, the band is preparing a special evening menu of Irish-flavored concoctions using a variety of instrumental and vocal selections.
“Come prepared to experience a blend of rollicking pub-style songs, haunting Irish fiddle tunes, and moments of audience participation stirred together with a sprinkle of anecdotal Irish music history,” Arnold said.
