Fundraiser benefits Morrow County family
LEXINGTON — A spaghetti feed will help raise money for the Martins Fire Fund.
The event also features live/silent auctions and music with Cory Peterson and Dog Bite Harris. The fundraiser is Saturday, March 23, noon to 4 p.m. at Broken Spoke, 125 W. Main St. The food is $10 per plate.

Youth artists can submit works for April show
JOSEPH — Youth artists are invited to submit works for the Wallowa Valley Youth Arts Festival, a show sponsored by the Wallowa Valley Arts Council at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture.
Artwork must be received by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3. Categories include painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, collage, 3D and more. Awards will be given in each age group. The show opens April 6.

Elks Lodge plans craft show April 6
JOHN DAY — The Elks Lodge of John Day, 140 NE Dayton St., will host a craft show on April 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All items will be home-crafted by vendors from John Day and the surrounding area. The Elks Lodge will have food and drinks available to purchase, and each vendor will donate prizes for a raffle.

Wine walk has ‘March Madness’ theme
BAKER CITY — Baker City Downtown’s next wine walk is Thursday, March 21, starting at 5 p.m. from Hatch, 2019 Main St.
A $12 donation gets a BCD logo wine glass and a map of participating locations.
Also, the map will have three featured businesses marked to drop raffle tickets for a special prize basket.
All participating businesses will be open from 5-7 p.m. and serving samples of different beverages.
D’Club L’Eveque will be playing music at Royal Artisan throughout the evening.
This month’s proceeds will support BCD in hosting events like Wine Walk, Taste of Baker and Twinkle in Time.
A glowing Easter egg hunt on March 26
LA GRANDE — Grab your flashlights or glow sticks and head to a glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt on Tuesday, March 26 at the La Grande Church of the Nazarene, 109 18th St.
The hunt runs from 6-7:30 p.m. There will also be snacks, treats, games and activities.
Fundraisers planned in John Day
JOHN DAY — A fundraiser for Hope4Paws is planned for Saturday, March 23, 4 p.m. at the John Day Elks Lodge, 140 NE Dayton St. This event features a taco dinner by the Squeeze-In, silent auction, live auction and dessert auction, with live music and a no-host bar. Dinner is by donation.
Looking ahead, the Lake Creek Youth Camp Gala is set for Saturday, April 6, 5 p.m. at Trowbridge Pavilion, Grant County Fairgrounds, 411 NW Bridge St. This annual fundraiser features a tri-tip dinner, live, silent and dessert auctions, games, a pistol drawing, and drinks by Spitfire Cocktails. Tickets are $30 in advance or $40 at the door for adults, $20 for kids under 12.
Josephy Center presents ‘Women, Words & Music’
JOSEPH — The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture will present “Women, Words & Music” on Friday, March 22, to continue Wallowa County’s observance of National Women’s History Month.
The evening of storytelling with music and words begins at 7 p.m. at the center, 403 N. Main St. Admission is $10.
This program is presented by the Josephy Center, in partnership with the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance. The featured artists are Amy Fairchild, Terri Hall, Kathy Hunter, Jezebel’s Mother, Lauren MacDonald, Shannon McNerney and Claire Webb.

‘Spring into Folk Music’ on March 23
HAINES — The Grande Ronde Symphony Association will present the second Chamber Series concert of the season, “Spring into Folk Music,” on Saturday, March 23 in Haines.
As a part of its Grande Rendezvous Music series, the concert will be presented at the historic Haines United Methodist Church, 721 Robert St., beginning at 7 p.m. Performing will be Brushfire and Blue Plate Special.
Tickets are $12 and available only online at GrandeRondeSymphony.org. Seating is limited to 60 and refreshments will be served.
Art center plans chili cook-off
JOHN DAY — Grab your favorite chili recipe and support Painted Sky Center for the Arts.
The ceramics department has been creating unique bowls for this fundraising chili cook-off on Sunday, March 24, 4-7 p.m. at the center, 116 NW Bridge St.
A $20 ticket gets a ceramic bowl, all-you-can-eat chili and one beverage. An $8 ticket includes a non-ceramic bowl and all-you-can-eat chili. The meal is free for kids younger than 10. Also, additional handmade ceramic bowls will be available for purchase for $15 each.

Laughter ignites at Electric Sundown
PENDLETON — Get ready to laugh as Electric Sundown presents Late-Night Comedy.
The event is March 29, 10 p.m. at 14 SE Third St. General admission is $10 and VIP tickets, which include premium seats, are $20.

Get back to nature at Wild Preschool
LA GRANDE — Art Center East is offering children ages 0 to 6 and their caregivers a chance to connect with nature and friends with Wild Preschool, a free fun outdoor class at Pete’s Pond with Meghan Ballard. This month’s class will be held on March 22 from 10-11 a.m.
Pete’s Pond is a Blue Mountain Conservancy property and is located at 913 S. Miller Drive in La Grande. The class is a chance to engage in hands-on science projects and create nature-based art. Each class begins with songs and parachute time, followed by reading a picture book based on the theme of the day, playing an earth science-based game or experiment, creating nature-based art and exploration. Themes vary and include shapes in nature, what lives in a tree, and how seeds grow. A parent or guardian must stay with their child for the duration of the class.
Teaching Artist Meghan Ballard holds a bachelor’s in environmental science from Portland State University and has done graduate-level coursework in environmental education. She has more than 10 years of experience in environmental education engaging K-12 science classes in stream and wetland restoration projects. She is currently a freelance environmental educator, a Cub Scouts Den Leader, a board member of the Blue Mountains Conservancy, and a mother of two.

Spring break activities at the library
BAKER CITY — The Baker County Public Library, 2400 Resort St., is planning special events for spring break, March 25-29.
Monday will have two movies, at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday has storytime at 10 a.m., then all ages are invited to the Bring-Your-Own-Book-Club from 3-5 p.m.
Wednesday is Play & Chat from 10-11:30 a.m., followed by Crafternoon for all ages to make friendship bracelets from 3-5 p.m.
On Thursday, grades 4-6 can do an art project from 2:30-4:30 p.m., and Friday is Lego Day from 9-11:30 a.m. and Teen Takeover for grades 7-12 with a movie from 4-6 p.m.
Movie night planned for March 28
PRAIRIE CITY — A family movie night featuring “Wild America” is planned for Thursday, March 28, 6:30 p.m. at the Prairie City Community Center. Admission is free, and concessions will be available to purchase.
Regional theater plans auditions for two shows
BAKER CITY — Eastern Oregon Regional Theater is planning auditions this month for two shows.
Auditions for “Pirates of Penzance” will be March 20 and 21 at 6 p.m. at the theater, 2101 Main St. This show is open to ages 16 and older. People need to come prepared with a song to sing plus their own background music on the phone. Performances will begin June 14 and run for two weekends.
Auditions for “Motherhood Out Loud” will be held March 27 and 28 at 6 p.m. This show needs multiple women ages 18 and older, plus one man. Performances will begin May 10 and run for two weekends.
Learn about blacksmithing in Spray
SPRAY — Blacksmith Peter Clark will share about his craft during a community presentation in Spray. The free event is Friday, March 22, 7 p.m. at The General Store, 208 Main St.
Clark is the co-owner of Northwest Skillet Company & Fine Art Blacksmithing School. While a blacksmith class the following day is already filled, Clark will share about other upcoming classes during his Friday evening presentation.

Easter Bunny hops into Hermiston
HERMISTON — The Easter Bunny is heading to Hermiston a little early with a stop at Guardian Angel Homes.
Everyone is invited to an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 23, 11 a.m. at 540 NW 12th St. Don’t be late — special prizes will be given to whoever finds a golden egg.

Round-Up Hall of Fame kicks off 2024 season
PENDLETON — The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame is preparing to open its doors for the 2024 season. After its winter closure, the board of directors is excited to launch the season with a Kick It Up After 5 event hosted by the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce.
The celebration is Thursday, March 21, 5 p.m. at 1114 SW Court Ave. The event is free and includes light refreshments.

Magician Matt Johnson escapes in Walla Walla
WALLA WALLA — Tickets are going fast for a chance to see magician/escapologist Matt Johnson at the Power House Theatre, 111 N. Sixth Ave.
Featured on many top shows — “America’s Got Talent,” “Britain’s Got Talent,” “Penn & Teller Fool Us” and “The Late Late Show with James Corden” — Johnson will present his “Urban Deception” show at 7 p.m. on March 30.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Johnson picked up techniques and skills while traveling across the globe. His performances are described as “a refreshingly cool mix of magic and escapes combined with the comedic timing.”

Adult prom is setfor May 18
LA GRANDE — Mark your calendars for the “Decades Adult Prom” on Saturday, May 18 at 7 p.m. The event, presented by McLaughlin Events and Marketing, takes place both at HQ, 112 Depot St., with live music and a beer garden, as well as dining at Valley Venue where chef Merlyn Baker is creating a special menu for the occasion.

Works sought for fiber arts show
JOSEPH — The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture is inviting artists to submit works for “Threads of Expression: A Fiber Arts Odyssey.”
The deadline to submit work is Sept. 9. The show opens Oct. 11. The entry fee is $10 per image, or free for youth.
Categories include textile sculptures, embroidery, needlework, weaving, quilting, felt art, knitting, crochet, mixed media fiber art, wearable fiber art, paper and fiber and macrame.
