Classes start soon at arts center

- Several clay classes are on the schedule for April at Pendleton Center for the Arts.
PENDLETON — A number of art classes start in early April at Pendleton Center for the Arts. Register at pendletonarts.org.
Here’s a look at the opportunities:
Teen Clay
Brian Purnell leads this class, which meets Tuesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. starting April 2. Students can join at any time but must register. Students will learn how to sculpt and build with clay. No experience is necessary. Cost is free.
Teen Intermediate Electric Guitar
Margaret Mayer instructs this class, which meets Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. starting April 3. This class is for experienced students who know most of the chords and have at least six months of active practice. Bring a guitar or borrow one from PCA. Cost is free.
Teen Acoustic Guitar
This is the class for those who have always wanted to learn guitar. The eight-session workshop starts April 3 and meets Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Students will work with Margaret Mayer to learn basic strumming styles and techniques. Cost is free.
Teen Photography 101
Yasser Marte, photographer at the East Oregonian, leads this 11-session workshop that starts April 3 and meets on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. This is not a course for cell phones, so bring a camera or borrow one from PCA. Spots are limited, and cost is free.
Shakespeare Acting Workshop
Grant Turner will lead this two-day workshop presented by College Community Theater.
It meets April 6 and 7 from 5-8 p.m. both days.
This course is for both teens and adults. Cost is free.
Guitar with Charlie
This 10-session class for adults is with Charlie Herrington on Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. starting April 3.
Learn basic guitar skills and build a foundation for playing all kinds of music, from country to blues to rock ‘n’ roll.
Cost is $50 members, $55 nonmembers.
Pottery: Wheel Throwing
Marie Pratuch will share processes, materials and tools in this class that is open to beginners and students who have taken other clay classes. It begins April 3 and meets Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $190 members or $195 nonmembers. There is also a $50 materials fee.
Hand Built Clay Forms
Brian Purnell leads this class on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. starting April 9. Previous experience with clay isn’t required. Students will learn the basics of wedging, clay storage, pinch and coil pots, slab construction methods and more.
Returning students are welcome. Cost is $200 members or $205 nonmembers. There is also a $50 materials fee.
Introduction to Printing with Gel Plates
Explore the variety of image-making techniques in this workshop with Alice Thomas.
The class starts April 9 and meets on Tuesdays, 4-6 p.m., for three weeks. Cost is $80 members or $85 nonmembers, plus a $5 materials fee.
Youth classes
Two special classes are coming up for younger artists:
- Hands On Messy Art meets April 8 from 3:30-4:15 p.m. The first session is all about slime. Two more classes are planned for June 17 and June 24. Cost is $5 per class.
- Trek of the Wildings is planned for three Saturdays — April 6, May 4 and June 1 — from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Kate Peck and Kate Brizendine will lead this excursion to enjoy nature with birdwatching and a nature scavenger hunt. Cost is free.
