Trivia Games planned for May 4
PENDLETON — Test your knowledge at the Trivia Games on May 4 at Heritage Station Museum, 108 SW Frazer Ave.
The evening includes fun, food and Umatilla County trivia — all while supporting the Umatilla County Historical Society.
The evening starts at 5 p.m. with food and drinks, and round one of trivia will begin at 5:30 pm.
During the break bid on silent and live auction items, then trivia moves to the second round to determine a winner.
Teams are limited to six members. Entry is $25 per player or $120 for a table of six. Tickets are on sale in the museum gift shop and online at heritagestationmuseum.org.
Money raised during Trivia Games will support exhibits, archives, collections and educational programming at Heritage Station Museum, which is run by the Umatilla County Historical Society.
OPB plans special screening
LA GRANDE — Oregon Field Guide will host an advance screening of the episode “Horsewomen of the Hen Party” on Wednesday, April 3, at Eastern Oregon University’s McKenzie Theater.
Doors open at 5:15 p.m., followed by the documentary at 6:15 p.m. and an audience Q&A at 6:45 p.m.
The episode tells the story of Jean Birnie who, in the early 20th century, began leading all-female horse packing trips into the Wallowa Mountains.
“Horsewomen of the Hen Party” follows Birnie’s descendants on a pack trip into the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
ACE opens new shows April 5
LA GRANDE — Art Center East opens two shows on Friday, April 5, with a reception from 6-8 p.m. at the center, 1006 Penn Ave.
The main gallery features “overtime,” the annual art exhibition by Eastern Oregon University’s junior theory and practice class.
This year features Losii Daniel, Nayeli Flores, Erin Glenn, Hailey Hochhalter, Av Hughes, Claudia Juarez, Kay Kellogg, Hadley Marshall, Aiden Patterson and Alyson Yates.
“This exhibition would not be possible without the EOU’s ongoing partnership and collaboration with Art Center East, which continues to support artists at every stage of development and enrich our diverse arts community,” said Jennifer Durr, gallery director.
The Orlaske Gallery will feature “New Works,” an exhibit of acrylic fluid art by Theresa Henderson.
“Thanks to Henderson’s generosity, all proceeds from exhibit sales will benefit ACE’s Youth Arts Learning Fund and Gallery Program,” Durr said.
Travelers gather April 11
HERMISTON — The Hermiston Travelers Group will meet at 10 a.m. April 11 at the Hermiston First Christian Church, 755 W. Highland Ave.
The group will discuss travel opportunities for Christmas markets in Germany and Austria in December 2024 and Scotland in May 2025.
Sip, shop and support local businesses
LA GRANDE — The Union County Chamber of Commerce’s monthly event “Sip, Shop, Repeat, Local” is Thursday, April 4.
Starting at 5 p.m., pick up a tumbler and map for $20 at the chamber office, 207 Depot St. Then head to locations around downtown for shopping and discounts at local retailers. This month honors April as National Volunteer Month.
‘Good to Me’ tour arrives April 6
BAKER CITY — Shannon and Jamie Curtis will bring their “Good to Me” tour to Baker City on Saturday, April 6 at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St.

The show is 90 minutes, with an hour of music and 30 minutes of scripted storytelling.
Old-time fiddlers tune-up in Hermiston
HERMISTON — Get ready for toe-tappin’ fun as the Blue Mountain Old-Time Fiddlers perform in Hermiston.

Album release party swings into Pendleton
PENDLETON — James Dean Kindle invites everyone to an album release party for “Trail Mix” on Saturday, April 6, at the Pendleton Eagles Lodge, 428 S. Main St.
Come early to participate in western swing dance lessons, which begin at 6 p.m. The music starts at 7 p.m. and also features guest performers Wes Youssi, Thomas Paul, Mike Vasquez, Adam Lange, Carl Scheeler and more.
A singer-songwriter, Kindle was born and raised in Pendleton. He is the executive director of the Oregon East Symphony.

Classical concert planned for April 7
ENTERPRISE — The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance has announced a new project — a mini-series of classical music concerts to be held at the historic Enterprise Odd Fellows Hall, 105 NE First St. Concerts will be free of charge, with donations accepted to help cover expenses.
The first concert, on April 7 at 2 p.m., will feature local classical musicians, including Liz Powers, Emily Knudsen, Lana Rose, Robyn Burns, Malakai Powers, Michaila Caine and Lauren Nebel.
Cookie Run planned for April 11
WALLOWA LAKE — The Mountain Runners and Quickhatch are organizing the Wallowa Lake Cookie Run on Thursday, April 11, starting at 6 p.m.
The distance is three miles from Wallowa Lake to Quickhatch in Joseph and back, and participants are asked to bring one to two dozen favorite cookies. (Cookies are not required to participate.) There will be awards for the best tasting, best looking and most creative.

Learn to make felted succulents April 13
JOSEPH — Christie Lower will teach a needle felting class for beginners to make tiny succulent plants on Saturday, April 13, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $90.
Students will have enough supplies to make three separate succulents. Adults and children age 12 and older are welcome. Spaces are limited. Register at josephy.org.
Breakfast and bazaar at the grange
JOSEPH — The Hurricane Creek Grange will offer breakfast and host a bazaar on Saturday, April 13.
The meal runs from 7-11 a.m. with pancakes, meat, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee. The requested donation is $10.
The bazaar is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The grange is located at the intersection of Hurricane Creek Road and Airport Lane.

Big game banquet planned for April 20
JOHN DAY — The John Day chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will have a big game banquet on Saturday, April 20, at the Grant County Fairgrounds, 411 NW Bridge St.

Spring Run Off raises money for Cove students
COVE — The Cove Education Foundation is hosting a Spring Run Off fun run on Saturday, April 27, to raise money to support Cove students. The nonprofit foundation provides scholarships to Cove High School graduates, as well as small grants for classroom enhancements and curriculum enrichment.
Participants can choose a 5K or one-mile course that goes through the Umatilla Loop of the Tish Croom Nature Trail.
Register by April 18 to secure your shirt size.
The run begins at 10 a.m. at the Ascension School Camp and Conference Center in Cove.
Spring showcase coming April 26-27
JOHN DAY — The Grant County Farmers Market spring showcase is happening April 26-27 at the Grant County Fairgrounds pavilion. Tables will be provided. The cost is $30 for an eight-foot table or $50 for a 10-foot table.
The showcase hours will be 3-8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Set up begins at noon on Friday.

YMCA is hosting a parent/daughter dance in May
BAKER CITY — The Baker Family YMCA is planning a parent/daughter dance on Friday, May 10, 6:30-8 p.m. at the YMCA gymnasium on Church Street.
The theme is “A Night Under the Stars” and attendees are encouraged to dress up. The evening includes games, photos, a raffle, dessert and drinks.
Tickets are $20 each or $50 for a family. Tickets must be pre-purchased at the YMCA welcome center, 3715 Pocahontas Road. Contact the YMCA at 541-523-9622 for information about scholarships, dress clothing or the “Adopt A Dad” program.
Proceeds from the dance will support the YMCA’s youth scholarship program.
Book club, true crime and more at the library
HERMISTON — The Hermiston Public Library, 235 E. Gladys Ave., has events for all ages this month.
The adult book club, Bookminders, meets Tuesday, April 9, 1:30 p.m. at the library. The selection is “All That’s Left Unsaid” by Tracey Lien. A limited number of copies are available to check out at the front desk.
Another program for adults is “True Crime and Chill Night” on Tuesday, April 16, from 6-7 p.m. Watch a true crime documentary, eat snacks and hang out with like-minded true crime enthusiasts.
The month wraps up with a Glow Paint Night for grades 6-12 on Thursday, April 25, from 6-7 p.m. Teens can explore their artistic creativity with glow-in-the-dark paint.
