- Registration is open for Youth Summer Fishtrap for writers who will enter grades five through 12 in the fall of 2024.
ENTERPRISE — Young writers who will enter grades five to 12 in the fall of 2024 are invited to register for Youth Summer Fishtrap, held June 24-28 at Fishtrap, 107 W. Main St.
Participants will explore creative writing and storytelling in a weeklong workshop designed to help them express what’s inside — and learn to listen to the stories of others, said Mike Midlo, Fishtrap program director.
Youth Summer Fishtrap will be led by teacher and poet Cameron Scott and Fishtrap Writer-in-Residence, Jason Graham. Each workshop will meet for three hours each day, depending on age.
For the first time, Youth Summer Fishtrap is taking place in June, two weeks prior to the full Summer Fishtrap Gathering in July.
“Fishtrap is excited to offer Summer Fishtrap Youth Workshops in June at Fishtrap in Enterprise,” said Fishtrap Executive Director Shannon McNerney. “This gives us the ability to give our young writers the full attention they deserve. Plus, our central Wallowa County location is more accessible to more families.”
Workshop details
The workshops will be divided by grade level.
Youth entering grades five to eight will meet from 8:30-11:30 a.m. with instructors Cameron Scott and Amy Fairchild.
This immersive workshop, titled “Heart of Gold: Acting and Writing Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances,” invites participants to “explore their inner truths through writing and acting exercises, paving the way for genuine connections with their audience.”
Youth entering grades nine to 12 will meet from 12:30-3:30 p.m. with Jason Graham (aka MOsely WOtta) for “a week of exploration, boundary pushing and connection.”
Showcase
The Summer Fishtrap Youth Workshop week concludes with a free Youth Showcase on Friday, June 28 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to hear a variety of narratives penned by talented young Summer Fishtrappers.

Summer Fishtrap Youth Workshops have a sliding-scale payment option from $25 to $225. This fee does not include meals and lodging for the week. Register at fishtrap.org.
