ADAMS — Adams Day is an annual event enjoyed by all ages in the town of Adams, 13 miles northeast of Pendleton, and will be held on Saturday, April 20.

From the Adams Friends Association Breakfast, starting at 7 a.m., until the last baseball is thrown, the town overflows with people taking in the parade, entertainment, arts and crafts sales, citywide yard sales, food vendors and baseball games.

There will be a schedule of events available that will include vendor locations and a yard sale map.

Those who would like to be a vendor or be in the parade can contact the AFA at adamsfriendsassociation@gmail.com or 541-215-5051. More information can be found on its Facebook page “Adams Friends Association.”

“Adams Day is the ‘kickoff day’ for Triangle Little League Baseball,” said AFA Vice President Stephanie Partida. “Our group recently took over planning Adams Day. Historically the Adams Ladies Club ran the event but as their group got smaller and we went a year or two without Adams Day, due to COVID, they handed the reins over to our librarian who facilitated starting a new community group, the Adams Friends Association.”

All the Little League teams — which include players from Adams, Athena, Helix and Weston — march in the morning parade down Main Street toward the baseball fields at the north end of town. The baseball action starts at 9:30 a.m.

Triangle Little League is a local club offering tee ball, baseball and softball for youths in the communities.

“This year we are excited to announce we have three softball teams,” said Triangle Little League President Chris Peters. “We will be playing a lot of games at our softball field this year.”

More information about the league can be found on the “Triangle Little League” Facebook page or https://tshq.bluesombrero.com/trianglellor.

The league can also be contacted by email at trianglelittleleague@hotmail.com.

History

The town of Adams has a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere enjoyed by residents and visitors. It was named for a local homesteader, John F. Adams. The post office was established in 1883 and the first postmaster was the town druggist. The city was incorporated on Feb. 10, 1893.

Adams got its start as a small trading center for the surrounding dryland wheat ranches. It became a wheat-shipping station once the railroad arrived in the early 1890s, a branch line of the Union Pacific that ran between Pendleton and Walla Walla.
