Young artists perform with Inland Northwest Orchestra

RICHLAND, Wash. — Celebrating its 25th anniversary season, the Inland Northwest Musicians will present a concert by the Inland Northwest Orchestra under the direction of R. Lee Friese and Phillip Simpson at Central Church in Richland, Washington, 1124 Stevens Drive, on Saturday, April 27, at 4 p.m.
This concert features the winners of the Young Artists Competition that was held in Hermiston on March 3.
Elementary division winner Evan Wang from Richland, Washington, will perform the First Movement Piano Concerto #23 in A Major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Junior division winner Elisabeth Smith from Kennewick, Washington, will perform on her cello the First Movement of the Concerto in C minor by Johann Christian Bach.
Senior division winner Karissa Nakamura from Richland, Washington, will play the piano for the Variation Symphoniques by Cesar Franck.
Young adult winner Emma Little, soprano from Walla Walla College in College Place, Washington, will perform “Und op die Wolke” by Carl Maria von Weber.
All young artists will be accompanied by the Inland Northwest Orchestra.
In addition, the orchestra will be performing two pieces: “Theme and Variations on Simple Gifts” by Larry Groupé and Die Felsenmuhle (The Mill on the Cliff) by Carl Gottlieb Reissiger and arranged by Phillip Simpson.
History
Founded in 1999, Inland Northwest Musicians is comprised of volunteer musicians from throughout northeast Oregon and southeastern Washington. The performance ensembles include the Inland Northwest Orchestra, Inland Northwest Chorale and Willow Creek Symphony, all of whom present concerts throughout the region in communities of all sizes.
In addition to performance ensembles, string instruction classes are offered in Hermiston to the surrounding communities.
Admission to all concerts is free of charge, funded by corporate sponsors, grants, local concert sponsorships and individual donations.
