A weekend of Americana music

The Wasteland Kings will play for the Base of the Blues Bash on Oct. 19 in Milton-Freewater.

RICHLAND — The Chautauqua Music Festival is back with two days of music, new vendors, a special workshop and campfire jams.

The Americana festival is May 17-19 at Eagle Valley Grange Park.

Tickets are $30 for the weekend or attend the days separately — $15 for Friday and $20 for Saturday.

In addition to music performances, the weekend features a variety of vendors with handmade items, crafts and art.

Organizer Sara Artley said food vendors will be Crabby’s Crab Cakes and Gyros and Spud Gutz, which is a new food truck featuring loaded baked potatoes.

The weekend

Vendors open at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 17, and the music starts at 3:30 p.m. with Terry Robb. Carter Junction takes the stage at 5:30 p.m., followed by The Wasteland Kings at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday begins with breakfast by the Eagle Valley Rural Fire Department from 7-11 a.m.

The cost is $11 or $8 for those younger than 11. Proceeds will help the department purchase a live fire training structure.

Vendors open at 11 a.m., and a free workshop starts at noon, titled “Tinctures, salves and teas from local medicinal plants” with Diana Carnell.

The music starts at 2 p.m. with The Two Tracks, followed by Carter Junction at 4 p.m., Mississippi Marshall at 6:30 p.m. and Tiller’s Folly at 8:30 p.m. A bonus “Spoken Word” session with poetry and recitations will be on a side stage at 5:30 p.m.

The evening ends with a campfire and optional jam until 12:30 a.m.

The fire department will offer breakfast again on Sunday from 7-11 a.m., and vendors open at 8 a.m.

The festival ends with a gospel jam from 10-11 a.m.

Raffle

A fundraising raffle is also planned, and the first prize is the choice of a trip with Hells Canyon Adventures valued over $1,500 or a $600 gift card to Thatcher’s Ace Hardware.

The second winning ticket will receive the remaining gift certificate and the third ticket will receive a gift basket worth $200.

Raffle tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at Sara’s Richland Cafe, Snake River PCS, Halfway Feed and Seed or the Baker County Chamber.
