Pecos & the Rooftops, a Texas-based alt-country band, will perform Aug. 7, 2024, during the Umatilla County Fair at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, Hermiston.

Ladies Night Out features live comedy

MISSION —Jeremy Nunes will perform stand-up comedy during a fundraiser for the Pioneer Relief Nursery.

In its sixth year, the Pendleton Ladies Night Out is Friday, May 17, 5 p.m. in the Rivers Event Center at Wildhorse Resort & Casino, off Interstate 84 at Exit 216. Tickets are $40 each or a table of eight for $260.

In addition to the comedy show, hors d’ oeuvres will be served and a no-host cash bar will be available. Also, the event features raffles, a silent purse auction and an opportunity to learn more about the nonprofit organization.

Block party salutes Armed Forces Day

PENDLETON — An Armed Forces Day Tribute will include a variety of activities on Saturday, May 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the 300 block of Main Street in Pendleton.

Hosted by the Pendleton Underground Tours and the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce, the free event features a vintage military vehicle display, veteran service booths and the Army National Guard rock climbing wall. In addition to food trucks, the Pendleton Air Museum will have hot dogs and ice cream. Sara Bear will offer tarot card readings and Wood Family Spirits and Just Rum will provide samples and bottle sales.

Car show revs up in Echo

ECHO — The Echo Parent-Teacher Organization is gearing up a week early for the annual Echo Car Show.

The event revs up Saturday, May 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Echo. Vehicle check-in starts at 9 a.m. Other activities include vendors and crafts in the park, food booths, raffle items and live music.

All makes and models can enter. Regular registration is $30 per class. Special trophies, created by industrial arts students, will be awarded around 2 p.m.

Island Magic Lu’au is May 18 at EOU

LA GRANDE — The EOU Navigators Club will present the Island Magic Lu’au and Show on Saturday, May 18, at Eastern Oregon University.

Dinner is at 5 p.m. in the Hoke Union Building, followed by the show at 7 p.m. in McKenzie Theatre. Tickets are $10 for EOU students, veterans, seniors and children younger than 12. General admission is $20.

Guests will enjoy a feast featuring kalua pork, poi, lomi lomi salmon, and haupia (a coconut dessert). The lu’au also includes performances showcasing hula dances, fire knife routines and live music.

Contra dance is May 18 in Milton-Freewater

MILTON-FREEWATER — The next contra dance hosted by the Walla Walla Friends of Acoustic Music is Saturday, May 18, 7 p.m. at the Timberrib, 84847 Winesap Road.

Contras, squares and other dances will be taught by local callers, and live music will be provided by the Wednesday Night Band. Admission is $5 or $3 for members. Those attending are welcome to bring food to share.

MILTON-FREEWATER — The Milton-Freewater Farmers Market season begins May 15 and continues Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. at Orchard Park, located near the intersection of South Main Street and 14th Avenue.

Wine walk supports CASA

BAKER CITY — Stroll to shops downtown and support CASA of Eastern Oregon during the Baker City Downtown wine walk on Thursday, May 16, 5-7 p.m. A $12 donation includes a BCD logo wine glass and map of participating businesses.

Also, the map will highlight three shops where walkers can drop raffle tickets for a chance to win a special prize basket.

Monthly dance is May 18 in La Grande

LA GRANDE — The BlueMountaineers monthly dance is Saturday, May 18, 6-9 p.m. at the Union County Senior Center, 1504 N. Albany St.

Admission is $5 or free for ages 12 and younger. The evening includes a finger food potluck.

Support live music at the annual Hootenanny

ENTERPRISE — The 12th annual Hootenanny and Shoo-fly Pie Social, a fundraiser for the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance, will be Sunday, May 19, 4 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall, 105 NE First St.

Admission is $10 at the door. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

This year’s theme is a tribute to the music of Hank Williams Sr., who regularly appeared on the 1950s WSM radio show sponsored by Mother’s Best Flour.

Dive into a movie at Veterans Memorial Pool

Sage & Stone plans fundraiser in La Grande

LA GRANDE — Community Kindness of Eastern Oregon is hosting a relaxing evening of “Music & Mimosas” with the folk-rock sounds of Sage & Stone on May 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Cavern, their event room, located at 1315 Adams Ave. This event is a fundraiser for Community Kindness of Eastern Oregon’s high school scholarships, the senior work program, and the youth work program.

HERMISTON — As its final community service project of the school year, the Hermiston FFA Chapter is hosting a First Responder Breakfast.

As a way to express appreciation for their service to the community, Chloe Samms, Hermiston FFA Chapter sentinel, said all area first responders and their families are invited to enjoy the free meal. Register soon for summer art club in John Day

JOHN DAY — Painted Sky Center for the Arts is accepting registration for the summer art club, which is open to children from kindergarten to grade six. The program is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. from June 13 to Aug. 15 (no class July 4 or Aug. 6 and 8 due to fair week).

A minimum of six students are required to hold the program, which can accommodate up to 10 children, so early registration is encouraged. The member price is $634.50 and the nonmember cost is $705. Two partial scholarships are available.

Umatilla County Fair announces main stage shows

HERMISTON — Tickets are on sale for the first two main stage concerts during this summer’s Umatilla County Fair.

Texas-based alt-country band Pecos & the Rooftops will play Aug. 7 and Kameron Marlowe, a Season 15 contestant on NBC’s “The Voice,” will perform on Aug. 8. Both shows start at 9 p.m.

With the theme A Blue Ribbon Future, the 2024 Umatilla County Fair is Aug. 7-10 at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, 1705 E. Airport Road. Fair Manager Angie McNalley said the rest of the main stage lineup, including the Saturday evening Latino Night, will be announced via the fair’s social media pages in the coming weeks.

Limited bleacher seating for the shows is included with the price of fair admission ($12 for ages 11 and older; free for children 10 and under). General admission seats and standing room only in the fan pit are $15 for Pecos & the Rooftops and Marlowe tickets are $25 and $20, respectively. Also, limited VIP tables, which include eight seats and table-side drink service, are $200 for Pecos & the Rooftops and $280 for Marlowe.

Duel in the Desert steers into Hermiston

HERMISTON — Duel in the Desert is revving up for two days of racing action during Memorial Day weekend at the Hermiston Raceway, 81236 N. Highway 395.

Presented by the Oregon National Guard, the event gears up Saturday, May 25 with modifieds, the Midway Legends, Banoderlos, the Street Stock Challenge, the Hornet 50 and hobby stocks. And be sure to come back Sunday, May 26 for the Powercity Prolate Models, Bettarel Hobby Stocks, ministocks, bombers and the INEX Regional Qualifier.
