- The Witch and the Burro — Lauren Napier and Vic Ruggiero — return to Churchill School on May 22, 2024.
BAKER CITY — Lauren Napier and Vic Ruggiero are plenty busy on their own projects, but every so often they are able to take the stage together as “The Witch and the Burro.”
They’ll return to Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St., on Wednesday, May 22.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance at churchillbaker.com or $18 at the door. Admission is free for ages 15 and younger who attend with a paid adult.
When they play as a duo, they go by the name The Witch and the Burro and generally play at smaller venues.
“Vic and I enjoy sharing space together and so it’s wonderful when we can visit these places,” she said.
This is the third time they’ll play on Churchill’s stage, although the first was as a livestream, without a live audience, in January 2021.
The couple met in Berlin, Germany.
Her background includes writer, singer, cellist, model and publicist. (She’s is also known as Punk Rock Doll. To learn more about her music and writing, visit punkrockdoll.com.)
Ruggiero grew up in New York — and still has his Bronx accent. He’s toured as a musician since the 1990s, and most of his gigs are with The Slackers, which is based out of New York City and plays about 100 shows a year.
“The Slackers always keep me busy,” he said.
In addition, he has his own solo work, and another duo/trio in addition to playing with Napier.
In addition to her music and poetry, Napier is also an artist and currently has a show on exhibit in Switzerland.
When Napier and Ruggiero started playing together, they mostly sang covers — but added their own musical twist.
“We like to make it our own,” he said.
They also have a handful of originals they wrote together.
Napier said their Baker City shows are unique.
“It ends up being a show you won’t see anywhere else — our shows in Baker are particularly special,” she said. “And we have some new stuff we haven’t released yet.”
Their music can be found on Bandcamp, including the album “Time Out!,” that was recorded at Churchill and released in February 2022.
